I read on one website the drugs can cause long term problems? And that the change of reocurrence/recatching is high.
What was your experience?
Also, was it hard to get a diagnosis? Seems like from reading the web.

It can be hard to diagnose, sometimes a special solution must be used if it's suspected, because with the regular fecal float solution it can be pretty easy to miss. Metronidazole (flagyl) is the drug used most often to treat it, and because cats are more resistant to it than dogs, several courses of the drug might be necessary to get rid of it completely...any drug used over the long-term will have negative side effects, but from what I've seen flagyl isn't nearly as hard on the system as many others. Washing out the litterboxes and cleaning floors/surfaces with a water/bleach solution is the best way to keep the environment under control, and I'd also use a water/lemon mixture to wash off the anal area (it is spread through feces). Hope this helps!
