Am I reading this right? A 10 round cap for mags? I mean really? Is there any exception to this? I know its been 3 years since I left the state, but god damn does that put a cramp on my plans to buy a high cap Glock pistol after my little stint in the Army. I'll be going back to Cali a few months from now to finish up my degree but it looks like I'll be doing my postgraduate work somewhere else.

You're going to base your postgrad school choice on magazine capacity?

No to be honest, I was never planning to stay in Cali permanently, too expensive for my tastes now, especially after being exposed to life in other states. Though I figure I can stand two years to finish up my bachelors. The gun laws compared to Colorado do factor into it though and the only reason I won't finish my degree in CO is that I don't feel like paying Out of State tuition for the first semester or so.

It's amazing that gun laws barely changed in Colorado after Columbine.

That's the first thing that popped into my head

As a firearm owner and enthusiast, may I ask why this is such a big deal to you...? Do you plan on living in the roughest neighborhood you can possibly live in, and taking on the local gangs head-on?

Also, did you carry a handgun as a sidearm? If your MOS allowed you to carry a sidearm, then you're probably a good enough shot that 10 rounds is adequate for pretty much any situation you'd run into out here in the real world, where most people go through their entire lives without ever pulling a gun on anyone or having had one pulled on them, let alone wishing they had that 11th bullet. Also, the Army generally uses the Baretta M9 or the Sig M11... Glocks aren't standard or optional issue, IIRC, 'cept for certain special forces. Even then... Osama Bin Laden isn't any less dead because the M11 he got plugged with didn't have a 32-round stick.

To answer your question, though: you can buy "repair" or "rebuild" kits that are basically just disassembled high-cap mags, usually shipped from AZ or NV. The legality of it is up for debate, but there are companies that will ship them here, and shops that will sell them to you with a CA license.

Even worse than the mag capacity nonsense is the over the top asinine DOJ's list of "appoved" handguns that can be legally purchased in California. Unless a gun has all the cute bell and whistle safety features that the Nanny State bureaucrats insist that shooters must have in order to not shoot themselves in the foot , it may not be legally sold. Some very fine handguns are excluded from sale in California because of this nonsense. On a recent personal note, not long ago while considering obtaining another pistol, came across several very good reviews about an ugly little compact 9 mm pistol, the Walther PPS, that aroused my interest enough to find one and check it out in person. Need not to have bothered, the weapon is not legal in California. Seems that it lacks the silly magazine disconnect feature, so that makes it "unsafe" according to the Bolsheviks running the state.
