I am currently contracting in IT at a large company through a recruiting company. At first I was under a 6 month contract, and that was renewed for 1 year. My conract expires Feb 1st, and I'll either be hired or my contract will be renewed(I know one of the two will happen). Now, if they decide to continue my contact instead of hiring me... how do I go about asking for a raise? Do I simply talk to the recruiting company (the company that writes my checks) and they'll handle negotiations with the company I contract at or do I mention something to my manager at the company I'm working at? I'd assume I just talk to the recruiters, but I was just making sure. Thanks!
ok, part 2 of this question... Since the recruiter will most likely have to negotiate with the company I'm working for to get more compensation... Should I overshoot what I want? I'm looking for a $3 an hour raise, should I ask for 5? or Just let them know where I want to land, and let them do the work?

Not to be a smart pants at all but welcome to the world of "Rent a People" where it's cheaper , and less of a legal hassle, for the contracting company to just rent people rather than hire them.
You don't like your pay? To bad since there is always another person to rent to fill your job for less money.
