Customer Service

May I ask whatever happened to good customer service? It seems to have gone the way of the LP, eight-track, and black and white TVs. I don't want to turn this into a rant, but it probably will end up that way .
Lately, I've just really been paying attention to others' attitudes and behaviors that I observe, run in to or are faced with head on and it appears that rudeness has multiplied faster than two love-struck rabbits. It's mostly been seen in the service sector.
Now, believe me when I say I've paid my dues in the service department. Actually, my job now is considered service/customer orientated (only, there's no way I can please everyone in my line of work). I've worked fast food, convenience stores, public transit and retail sales. So I think I'm qualified to point out bad customer service.
It just seems the attitude has become "so what" or "take it or leave it". It is no more the customer is always right. Well, I didn't agree with that rule either. But it just seems there's no pride in the work being performed, no matter what level it is. It feels like I'm intruding on their time, as if they're only there to collect a paycheck and not perform their job duties to the best of their ability.
I try to be the pleasant customer. I remain polite and courteous and use my manners, such as please and thank you, at every opportunity, only to be met with a wall of silence. Or vacant expressions. Or a
monotone, robotic exchange.
Am I the only one seeing this? I wonder...

oh this has been a pet peeve of mine for a few years now. I cannot believe how rude customer service people are. I also worked in restaurants, fast food, and consider my job now falls into customer service since I deal with customers all day long. Angry ones, sad ones, upset ones, confused ones, etc....I try to stay as polite and calm as possible. Yet when I go to get service, I am met with the same things Mams, so here is what I've done recently and it works... I go out of my way to get a smile out of this person who is being rude/ignoring/or just vacant. 9 times out of 10 I can do this, and somehow feel that maybe I made their day a bit brighter, helped them feel as if someone cares, etc...Who knows, it might help them in some way I will never know.....

i could write about three different places we had bad experiences in all on one day..one right after the other...
1. rude and downright hateful person at a shoe store.
2. the girl that never said a word at the ice cream place..i mean not hi, not bye, not even how much the price was..nothing...i think she had to be a robot-lol, at least my youngest thought so
3. another check out person across town..
most of my jobs in life have been dealing with the public..I may have gotten angry but they sure never knew it! lolPosted 09-10-2008 at 12:43 PM by arguy1973
