Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

New Signage For I-27 On U.S. 87 Might Come Sooner Rather Than Later

It's crazy when you look things up online, and important stories like the one I'm about to share with you gets buried for a few months. And now, here we are, and this story pops up:

https://www.lubbockonline.com/story/...r/71840434007/

What the paper said was, there will soon be new signs of a certain interstate on a stretch of a certain U.S. highway that previously weren't there. After all, your writer had been starving for new news on Texas' newest corridors, so this finally emerges.

The words interstate and expansion. Music to my ears. In this case, U.S. Highway 87 south of Lubbock has been ready for a while now, and there's finally talk that the new Interstate 27 shields can finally be put up on a four-mile segment from 82nd Street down to what currently is FM Road 1585 (Future State Loop 88). It's way past time. Other projects will eventually take place along the highway around Woodrow and the new FM 41 interchange a few miles to the south, but this impending adjustment is going to be a game-changer for the Lubbock area. Pretty soon, further blog posts could feature titles containing I-27 Update just like I have with Interstate 69. We'll cross that bridge (pun intended ) when we get to it.

For travelers, this would be a welcome change. But there's another rub to consider: If I-27 is finally extended, then you can kiss goodbye those current mileposts and exit numbers because new ones with new numbers will have to be put up. It's only inevitable, folks. We're talking going from Exit 1 to Exit 5xx for 82nd Street. That's five hundred and something. It's just inevitable.

And for this writer, such will be soooooo delicious to take in....
