Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Case's Faves For Steaks: You'll Want To Know These Places

I've done Top Tens in the past here in this blog page, but if I have favorites of something, then why stop at just ten?
This is, after all, City-Data, where it's great to be alive, and also where it's great to share lists of things. People are on a need-to-know basis, and lists exist since that's part of the idea of this website in the first place. So, what do I have up my sleeve here?
Ol' Case is going to unveil favorites of a particular genre, and the following lists are to assist you with ideas in case any of you wish to travel my great home state. Not only that, but to give you ideas for where to stop when you do travel. You won't need to wrack your brain trying to figure out where to go next. Let case44 do that for you. It's what friends are for.
I'm picking my favorite go-to steak places all over stops in Texas. As a bonus, I'm going to sneak one in from Oklahoma, too. Top places I've been for steak in the Lone Star State, and now, I will share them with you below:
Dallas-Fort Worth region: Mac's on Main (Grapevine), Randy's Steakhouse (Frisco), Del Frisco's Grille (Southlake, and yes, it's part of a chain), Perry's Steakhouse (Grapevine and also like the previous entry), Trail Dust Steakhouse (Sanger, relocated from its original location), Chamberlain's Steakhouse. My local area has so much to choose from. Need to do a return visit to Chamberlain's and Randy's, but Trail Dust still remains a big western winner. It's no longer a chain, but they still have the trademark slide for the kids and the scissors for those who wear neckties. Not to be overlooked are the mesquite-grilled steaks Trail Dust is known for.
Houston region: Taste of Texas Steakhouse. Just great food all across the board there. Houston radio legend Edd Hendee started that outpost, and it's one of Southeast Texas' most successful.
Waco: Heitmiller's Steakhouse. Best place in all of Waco, and they have a long history there.
Abilene: Perini Ranch Steakhouse in nearby Buffalo Gap. They do it the cowboy way, and owner Tom Perini is a bona fide Texas legend. Closer to town, Joe Allen's does well with two things (much like the next place I'll mention), but they do steak as good as anyone.
Bryan: J Cody's Steaks/BBQ. This place is a good one-stop for a lot of things (and one better than Joe Allen's), so it becomes a favorite between Houston and the Cen-Tex regions. Tremendous mesquite steaks.
Lubbock: Cagle Steaks, Lisa West's Double Nickel Steakhouse. Tales of two Lisas, but the one that I've met is Lisa Cagle. She runs a great operation in West Lubbock, but I do wish they'd start serving sirloins, strips, and T's. All they do are ribeyes. And I wouldn't mind going back to Double Nickel if I can somehow fit it in. Also on my radar is Triple J, but I still haven't had their steaks yet.
El Paso: Cattleman's Steakhouse. On the edge of the metro, they've got that cowboy feel and taste you crave. Worth the short drive from your El Paso hotel.
Amarillo: The Big Texan Steak Ranch. You knew I'd include that one. It's on most people's top five.
Wichita Falls: McBride's Steakhouse (preferably, the one on Maplewood in the south). I love their decor, but that food is reason enough to return.
San Angelo: Lowake Steakhouse, located in Rowena, 26 miles to the northeast. Unassuming, and they love their rub that they put on.
Avinger: Five D Cattle Company. Wonderful steaks, and that little town draws Saturday crowds like you would not believe.
Although I've mentioned a couple of fine chains earlier, I still get a hankering for a Saltgrass steak.
They're a Houston legend that has caught on in other parts of Texas. I have yet to visit Fleming's, Morton's, or Ruth's Chris. Maybe in due course.
And if you cross that Red River, stop in Oklahoma City for a Stockyards' favorite: Cattlemen's Steakhouse. 110 years of greatness. I highly recommend nearly any steak they have.
