Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

What To Do About Expiration Dates That Don't Show Up On Food Items

Posted 02-07-2022 at 11:52 AM by case44

Every trip to the grocery store provides something special for Case. Other occasions, however, I might get a slight adventure.

First, the good news from over the weekend, Blue Bell chocolate chip ice cream is back on the shelves! Case got himself a gallon, and there was much rejoicing. Not sure why Blue Bell wasn't making the product for some time, and I haven't heard of any problems at the main plant.

Now, on to my blog subject. I looked in my pantry at some items and came across a package of uncooked pasta shells. On the bag, I checked for the expiration date because it had been a substantial amount of time since buying the product, and I'm planning to use it for a dish tomorrow. I checked far and wide on the package for the expiration date. Everywhere. All over the bag. Nothing. I even tried looking for a microscopic, cryptic print that could have been written in invisible ink. Now, why would supermarkets and makers make things difficult when it comes to expiration dates?? Keep the dadgummed thing simple, for goodness sake. We, The People are on a need-to-know basis. So, the package of uncooked pasta shells does not show an expiration date. It does not. It's not anywhere.

Basically, what that's telling me is.............

................that this product might just go on forever!

On the lighter side, I'll get to enjoy my Blue Bell, and it'll be gone long before December of '23.
