COVID-19: Personal Update 2020-03-19 From Kirkland WA

Posted 03-19-2020 at 10:44 AM by Blondebaerde

CORONAVIRUS

A deadly new virus from China, which causes respiratory illness and pneumonia, is spreading around the world. CDC calls it COVID-19. I live in Kirkland, WA, about two miles due south of the outbreak's original United States epicenter, with multiple cases and the first substantial deaths. Through today, King County has 56 deaths attributed to the virus (source: Dept of Health).

(Caveat: one man, one IT worker, one opinion: I have no extra info over and above, one commentary only.)

I am fuming mad, this better be isolated vs. a rapidly-emerging trend. Won't respond to the original...my comments below. This isn't 'hateful or violent or threatening,' though definitely is angry in tone, that such behavior is allowed in my town.

RE: Kirkland WA local blotter:

"Last night (3/18) around 10:15 pm I was taking my dog out at the Villaggio apts on Lake Wa Blvd. A large dark man in an orange beanie and camp/military looking jacket was walking down the street wearing a backpack. It was VERY dark so I could just make out that it was a man and the backpack at that point. He stopped at the chain-link barrier that used to be a security gate (thanks for never fixing jack **** Villaggio) and climbed over the barrier and came towards me. I turned and started to walk quickly into my bldg. He started to walk faster. I ran; he ran. I got into the building in time to pull the door closed and run into the stairwell just as he got to the glass doors and started banging on them and screaming. He was literally unhinged and dangerous. I've never been so scared in my life. I called 911 and apparently, KPD came to look (I never saw them although apparently there were 3 patrol cars). My daughter's boyfriend is familiar with him from the area as was one neighbor I spoke to who has seen him often at Houghton beach park. If you live in the area please just watch out for him. He isn't just a homeless person; he's crazy and he's dangerous. If two people I spoke to were already familiar I'm confused why KPD is so clueless. He also is known to hang out around an abandoned building behind the Jiffy Lube on 85th. Just be alert. Most of us think we are pretty safe here, but that's a false sense of security really."

And my response, posted here (only, for the time being):

And...? How "safe" you are is a function in-part of your readiness. We're all prepping a bit, now that it's 1) necessary and 2) socially acceptable. Four weeks ago it was neither, those were wackos and fringers. Times change. So, take a baby step toward prepping yourself: consider 1) traveling late and after dark with companions. Maybe large, ogre-like companions. 2) Keeping the outdoor activities to a minimum 3) tiniest of tiny SD steps: get a pocket pepper spray, or a medium can. I've carried the latter since c. 2004 when attacked jogging not once but twice by dogs, and once by some ******** vagrant. Pepper spray and other lawful methods stopped all three, butt-cold, no one permanently injured.

Sorry you were run off by a disturbed so-called "homeless," or whomever it was, interesting times when "dangerous" people are allowed to wander around threatening citizens? I submit they are more of a road agent, or vector of disease, or (dangerous) lunatic if they're literally running off citizens into buildings and shouting, thus need to be dealt with LAWFULLY and immediately, in a time of State-level Emergency as mandated by Gov Inslee. Preferably, by authorities, of course!

Your call, though. The State Govt is at the "please do this" (stay away from others) stage vs. the "thou shalt" and we can hope the latter never comes. That will be a bad day, and the day more of the above is reported I do suspect.
