Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / The Whereabouts Of The Kissing Bandit

Here I am again on your computer (whether you like it or not), and I'm due for yet another round of Scattershooting, where you feel right at home on City-Data. And since winter is about to leave us, it is time to gather up some marshmallows to roast on the computer campfire and possibly bring a gee-tar for some campfire songs if you know any.

In the meantime, I'm ready to take off if you are....

Many years have gone by since we've seen a certain blonde female race across a baseball diamond to put kisses on the lips of certain baseball players. And I just thought about her today. Where in the devil do you think Morganna is these days? That's right, Morganna. You know, the notorious Kissing Bandit from many moons ago. And, at least, she didn't moon anyone. She did, however, become a part of baseball lore, as anyone who disrupts a baseball game usually gets booed and arrested. Not that Morganna wasn't arrested a time or two in her day, but for about thirty years, the busty former dancer became an occasional guest star on the field, running onto many of same kissing as many big-time major league stars as she could. In many cases, it was always an unexpected, but somewhat amusing, surprise. And she didn't really want to take away from the game, but if she wanted to make lasting memories, then she has certainly succeeded. You wonder if her bust can make it to Cooperstown. Oh, we can dream....

She discontinued the practice right around 2000, but she'll always have her place in baseball history. Heck, she provided plenty to keep guys entertained besides the game itself.

Can Pat St John of Sirius XM's 60s on 6 ever get his days straight? It's Wednesday, which means Cousin Brucie (Bruce Morrow) has his mid-week extravaganza on the channel each week at 5 p.m. Eastern time. The problem is, Pat has forgotten that in two of the last three Wednesdays, trying instead to throw it to Dave Hoeffel (who is on during the other weekdays). It leaves the impression that Pat is getting too old to do this job, or he must have a vendetta against Morrow, which can't be true since they are friends.

Hey, Pat. You're too established for this mistake to be happening. Be a professional. Get it right next Wednesday and forward.

Speaking of radio guys, Charley Jones is no longer on KRLD-AM (1080) in Dallas. This story occurred many months ago, and I used to listen to his Texas Overnight show from time to time, and it was really good. This is what I get for not listening lately. CBS Radio decided to make some cuts last year, and Jones was one of those casualties. Now, the good news is this: He's been picked up by USA Radio Networks to do a new show called Charley Jones Overnight. I'll have to look for the affiliate for it in Dallas, likely one of our FM stations.

On a similar note, WBAP-AM (820) has resumed doing local news during the overnight hours. It's a welcome earful, considering their affiliation with Westwood One (hardly a bastion for real journalism). Makes me wonder why WBAP hasn't gone after FOX News Radio, and that one is a head-scratcher, you think? They'd be a perfect fit....

Dickies Arena in Fort Worth is really taking shape. The whole scope of the Will Rogers Memorial complex is retaking shape in a big way. Now, the annual Southwest Exposition Livestock Show and Rodeo will have a new place for rodeos and entertainment. And its architectural style fits the billing, as it will take on the retro touch that the other buildings have.

Should be great to have! Here's the link with the details.

More Dallas-Fort Worth personalities from the past have sprung up with new roles. Former KXAS-TV (Channel 5) longtime anchor Mike Snyder is running for Tarrant County's tax-assessor/collector post as a Republican. Even though I don't live in that county, I'm pulling for him to win. Hey, name recognition can get you somewhere; plus, he's on the right side of the fence.

And elsewhere, actress Stacey Dash is running for Congress, vying for a Congressional seat in California. Yes, she's in for a big challenge in a state that is gradually getting more Communist-leftist all the time, but I believe that Stacey can pull it off. She's part African-American and she's conservative. Nothing should ever be impossible. The former FOX analyst is simply standing up for the country she loves. You go, girl!

Idle thought: If there's such a fuss over gun laws after seventeen teens perished at a Florida high school a short time ago, then where was the outrage when Senator Steve Scalise was gunned down by a crazed Democrat gun-wielder at a congressional baseball charity game? Where was the outrage? Where was our so-called media then?

I swear, our society has just lost it, and I mean lost it! If Democrats really wanted to take guns away from law-abiding citizens, then they can look at their own hypocrisy when one of their own, James Hodgkinson, opened fire on some Republican lawmakers before scuffling with police officers, resulting in his own death.

Before left-wingers seek to take specks out of other people's eyes, perhaps they need to be concerned about getting said specks out of their own eyes.

Singer-songwriter Neil Diamond will never perform again. Ever. He's come down with Parkinson's disease recently. It doesn't seem possible, but artists are never immortal. They never are. But it wasn't too long ago when Neil serenaded a group of partiers in Times Square on New Year's Eve going into this year, and it happened to be during his last tour. The song was "Sweet Caroline", arguably his signature hit but certainly one for the ages. Sadly, his last tour came to an abrupt end, much to the chagrin of his fan base who have waited x number of years to see him perform.

Life is very short. But the music of Neil Diamond will, no doubt, live forever.

After a couple days of rain in North Texas, the sun will finally come back out tomorrow and through the weekend. Ol' Case will continue his vacation in Denison, Granbury, and Wichita Falls. I was to go to Dallas today but decided not to due to two things: I didn't want to drive in the rain (which I had to do yesterday coming back from East Texas), and the place that I intended to go to, The Perot Museum, had a gunman take refuge following a shooting at a nearby apartment complex in Dallas' Uptown district. Oh, well....

Regarding the following, I kid you not, I never would have imagined this happening at any fast food restaurant.

Spring is almost here, folks. Make sure you don't forget to set your watches and clocks forward one hour the night of March 12, just a few short weeks away.

And there you are.
