Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

One Thousand Blog Posts, And I'm Not Stopping

Posted 11-16-2017 at 08:10 PM by case44

Nine years ago, City-Data started a new trailblazing idea to provide an outlet for forum members to lend everyone our writing skills. And our thoughts. And whatever other ideas we had.

The result was this cozy arcade we call the blog pages. Web logs, if you will, because that's what they are. Nine years ago, this writer's playground began, and not long after it started, this writer took the plunge. At the time, I'd only been on City-Data as a member for about a year when a couple of posters suggested that I start a blog page. When this venture was discovered, the time had come. What I'd gotten myself into was this juggernaut called Case's Column. I wasn't sure how many of these posts I could actually write, but there I was, keeping on keeping on. Some of what I wrote were good ones, others were pure gold, and others were mild turkeys. Just like life, basically. As long as this outlet was available to me, I had to take advantage. When it came time to scratch that writer's itch, this writer got to work. Lots of things were going on, both in my personal life and in our world out there. If something was important enough, then it certainly warranted finger to keyboard just as fluently as pen to paper would have been.

For the amount of time it took to get to this point in my life, I'd say it was time well spent. You could say that it's been a good ride. I'll let you be the judge with what you think it was, because no matter what my dancing fingers type, 95 percent of folks out there in computerland or appland are going to have an opinion. So it is with others, too, when they sit at a keyboard and type. Though I really don't think that much about numbers, one thousand was a good milestone for something like this, and something that was and is doable. Case's Column has certainly stood the test of time, and the accomplishment is not just entertaining you or informing you, but this blog page has had more posts written, by far, than any other. It's also had lots of views by people across America and around the world. Chances are, some folks found my column from a Google-search and not necessarily C-D. There was subject matter that coincided with something someone looked up, and in some cases, they wound up here.

Gratitude beyond belief is extended heartily to those who have taken the time to read this computer chickenscratch week after week, whether from in or out of our C-D forums. I don't need to repeat anything I've already written, but you were already there. Perhaps you have a memory about a post from yesteryear. Maybe I made you laugh at other posts, and we've had plenty to laugh about through the years. If nothing else, I hope that I've also made you think a little, too.

One thousand. Hard to believe, right? But I'm here now. And now, the big question: What will the future be? I'm just going to keep going. Why stop when there is still more of life to write about? Case's Column exists to serve you, the common person. There's no stopping me just yet. Not when there is more life out there to write about. One thousand. You were there for all the others, and now, this one. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and obese thanks for taking your time to see what all the fuss is about here. It's been a great ride.

And, as life goes, so go my dancing fingers.

Congrats. Don’t think I could ever do that and have more than one reader, if that.

People like thinking, "When are you going to get to five thousand"? That'll be the next sexy number, but as long as it took for me to get to one thousand on Case's Column, imagine how long five thousand will take. Let's see, four thousand more....

Four times nine years would be........

Thirty-six. That means I'll be...............87 years of age when I get to 5,000 blog posts.........

    ................in 2053!

You did it, Case! You got the one thousand. What can you possibly do for an encore?

In all seriousness, that takes time and patience. You've outlasted a lot of people, including some faithfuls. Keep up the good work!
