Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Miracles DO Happen.....At My Car Dealership's Service Department

Posted 12-17-2015 at 03:17 PM by case44

You could only imagine the look on my face when something very strange happened a few nights ago. On a few errands, my car's engine suddenly started having a few knocking sounds. Just the thing you don't want when thinking about buying cookies.

The knocking and sputtering continued until I stopped at a gas station, believing, at the time, that, maybe, I'd gotten some bad gasoline. All of which would not have made much sense because I'd just filled up the tank two days earlier. After the trip to get some super-premium-mega unleaded to go on top of my regular unleaded, I thought that did the trick. Well, by that time, the engine warning light had already come on. The knocking actually stopped, but the light was on and stayed on.

I thought, "Oh, great! Unexpected expense when I need to get all my bills paid up...." Do you believe in miracles? Well, stay with me for this one.

Upon leaving work the next day, I decided to take my car to my local Toyota dealership's service area. I dropped off my car with them, told them what had happened with my car's engine, and then waited in the TV room. Forty-five minutes later, I got the call on my cell phone with the diagnosis.

They actually fixed the problem.

As they were diagnosing the situation, they found what was wrong with the engine. It was the vacuum attachment which somehow fell off and needed to be re-attached. That's it. Nothing else. Bad gasoline? Nope. Just an attachment that had become unattached. Expense? Try $99 for the diagnostic fee, with no labor cost.

There's your miracle right there. Think about it; this whole episode could have been much worse. Much worse. Only cost ninety-nine George Washingtons instead of, say, a thousand. My life is good once again as if nothing happened. And now, I can celebrate my mom's birthday and Christmas.

In addition, during that visit, my technician also did a multi-point inspection and said my brakes would soon need replacing. He gave me an offer for $179 for that brake service. Soon as this upcoming week begins, I'm definitely doing that!
