The End.
I worked on my favorite patient today. A veteran of one of the wars long ago, suffering from advanced Alzheimer's, and bed bound . Upon completion, his respiration increased, plus he was holding my hand in his trembling hand.
His wife informed me, he had, "...worked himself up..." she retrieved some cold ginger ale for him. I stroked his cheek and held his hand.
I was worried I had possibly sent him to the point of no return.

Sadly, my favorite patient left this world, today. Sadly, for me, good for him.
Yesterday, I was terrified working on him. I knew we were dealing with limited time, I was afraid to cause him pain, and two people looked at me with pensive eyes, looking to me for guidance. ME? of all people. I managed to keep my cool, be professional, complete my job which entailed leaving him content. His skin was pinkish, he was sleeping, though his breath labored. I believe those were Cheyne Stokes. I worry for his wife, who was married to him for 60 years. I never saw a love that strong in.my. life.

It is heavy and dense. I don't know why, I have had patients leave this world about four hours after seeing them. In fact one patient was talking to me joking. Later that night the patient asked a loved one for water, and when the loved one came back the patient was deceased.
