Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Reflecting On How I Started On City-Data

Posted 12-27-2014 at 06:00 AM by case44

To think it all started so many years ago, but yet, here I am on blog post five hundred and something (which, itself, took all of six years to get to) and, all of a sudden, I'm reflecting once again. Forget that unplanned year-in-review post; I'd just run into a thread allowing City-Data members an opportunity to reflect on how it all began.

Yes, we shared why we have stayed on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. You'll get a lot of interesting responses. And, of course, this writer also chimed in, what with my usual, heartfelt honesty and historic accounts using my photographic memory. All in all, it's great to hear about other people's experiences on this website. I think the part we forget is that, regardless of the reasons we're on here, we are impacting someone's life today. I am, and so are you. You're welcome.

For me, it began in 2007 with a Google search. My first search was about something in El Paso, and I came across City-Data. But I'd only gotten so far as reading people's comments and would turn around and go to another site. Well, later on, a second Google search was regarding some new information on possible future plans for Interstate 44. The second visit to this venue was what did it. I had a need to chime in, and so, on a Saturday morning in August of 20-ought-7, I had made my decision to join City-Data.

And now, look at me all these years thereafter. Still cutting up, still posting up, and still typing up. Best of all, I get to interact with so many different people all over America and around the world. You can just call me the guy next door. Face it, sports fans; I'm just your good neighbor.

I found out about City-Data while I was researching information about Missouri's outlaws for a website I was building. When I googled I found a thread about Missouri outlaws that someone posted on the Missouri forum on City-Data. There were only a few posts on that thread and I pretty much took it over and filled it with all the info that I had accumulated. I then discovered what blogs were and started posting those. That was about 8 months ago and I've been here ever since.

I really love what you did here! You created something similar but more thought out than what I started lol. Random thoughts/reflections on the blogging in front of the campfire on the christmas holiday time when everything slows down and everyone's really nice to each other

You can be my good neighbor too. I like to say city-data has a bit of everything in it. Some political views that differ from mine just color mine with contrast is how I see it. If I had to describe myself I would say I'm a real softie, I like helping the people and things that are weaker than me feel empowered and then have the euphoria of something they didn't think possible. I like to promote the strength and ego of pretty much anyone/anything that is smaller than I am.

Thanks for the good words, Eric, and a belated welcome to the blogs. Yeah, I just write what's on my mind. Some things I write about interest some people more than others. What you see, basically, is what you get. Sometimes, I just want to get a laugh out of you and others.

And, hey, I could use more commenters, so invite some people if you can!
