Sunday ~~ November 9, 2014 ~~ There is a verse in the Bible that is misquoted often....

No, this is not going to be a Preaching the Word to you session. This verse has everything to do with what I am writing about this evening.
Continue reading if you choose to, move on if you don't.
Also, let me state right now whatever your belief is, that is your belief. I will never tell you that you are right or wrong. I am not advocating nor pushing anyone toward any formal organized Religion and I am not telling anyone that they MUST believe in God, read the Bible, agree with nor pay attention to anything I write. These words are purely my own interpretation and opinion.

The verse as it is quoted so many times is
"Money is the root of all evil".
The actual verse is:
1 Timothy 6:10
Viewing the King James Version. Click to switch to 1611 King James Version of 1 Timothy 6:10.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The reason it is so important to know the difference and reference the correct verse is because so many misunderstand the meaning behind what is actually being said.

Money is tangible, inanimate, does not love, feel, see, hear, listen, warm you at night, give you joy, give you sorrow. Now many will disagree with the last two I listed but stay with me while I proceed.

Money is tangible, you can feel it, you can see it, you can use it to purchase items and pay debts. Having money makes life more comfortable however, money does not love you, money cannot feel you, money cannot see you, money cannot hear you, money cannot listen to you, money cannot warm you at night unless of course you are burning it in a fire then the warmth only lasts as long as the money does.
Money does not give you joy, money can give you the ability to pay for items that give you joy. Money can give you the ability to go and visit someone who gives you joy. Money itself does not give you joy. Money does not give you sorrow. Lack of money can cause you to be filled with sorrow because you cannot purchase something you want or need. Lack of money can cause you to feel sorrow because you do not have enough of it to go and visit someone you want to visit. Money itself does not give you sorrow.

The ironic part of money though is that it, money itself holds so many hostage. So many believe that they cannot be happy, find a life partner, live well, pay their debts, make a purchase of something they want or need and causes so much stress and turmoil.
The reason money has so much power? That is easy, because humans allow money to have so much power. Money literally controls the actions, decisions, and emotions of so many humans and honestly I just do not understand it.

Whatever you choose to allow to control your life is your choice however, I discovered many, many years ago that my choice of controlling money instead of money controlling me was a very good choice.

I am not saying we are rich by any means, all I am saying is we know our limitations and we try to plan in advance for things we want or need. It doesn't always work out that way but we do not worry much about lack of money because we, Mr. CSD and I believe that God provides all we need. (Our beliefs only, not pushing anything here, just stating a fact that pertains to us).

Anyway, there are numerous discussions daily about money, what to do with it, how to handle it, how much happier it will make you, etc. etc. etc. The thing is there is no guarantee that money or fame is going to make you happy.
There are still those inner demons that are the same whether you go from rags to riches, heavy to thin, unknown to known by the world.

One recent example is the young man who committed suicide who had a very successful career as an actor. He started as a Disney child actor, had one or two of his own programs there then moved on as an adult to Rizzoli & Isles as one of the main characters. Fame, fortune, recognition and he still could not overcome his inner issues and he committed suicide. His name is Lee Thompson Young, a very talented actor, handsome, a good personality, many friends but money did not help.
Another example is Robin Williams, another very talented actor/comedian all around good human. He committed suicide as well.
Just two examples of proof that having money does not make you happy.

Alrighty then, I have put my sturdy ladder away for now and I want to move into the upcoming Holiday Season and I have specifically stated Holiday Season because it is the start of the Holiday Season for many who celebrate.

Throughout my life there have always been three Holidays around this time of year.
Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day. Even though the actual celebration starts on New Year's Eve that particular date is not celebrated as a Holiday.

So, if you celebrate this Holiday Season have you started planning already? Are you the one who has the big dinner or do you go to the big dinner? Do you have lots of gifts you give to your family? Do you have the party to celebrate the new year at midnight?

We don't really do much and haven't for many years. Thanksgiving is either traveling to spend a few days with Mr. CSD's family a few states away or staying home. Christmas Day is not really celebrated either. We do not give gifts to each other but we do have things for the Grand Children. We just choose to try and visit them somewhere between the day after Christmas and New Year's Eve day. It is easier for us and less chaotic for them. New Years Eve is always at home or someone's home and we will not be leaving after about 5:00 PM. It is definitely not safe to be in a vehicle that evening because it seems all the amateur amateur's are out and drunk and driving.

Do you have any traditions that you partake in? When I was growing up the Christmas Tree at my Grandparents home was always put up the day after Thanksgiving and taken down on New Year's Day. My Mother cooks Cabbage on New Year's Day, I do not partake in that tradition but I do not like the smell of cooked cabbage.
Is there a tradition you would like to start with your family? Maybe this year is the time to start it.

I believe I have droned on enough for one Sunday evening so I will leave you with a couple thoughts to ponder if you choose to do so.

Do you control your money or does your money control you?
Do you really understand the difference?
Do you put up a Christmas Tree or whatever decoration is appropriate for your belief or lack of?
Do you like Snickerdoodle Cookies with colored sugar on them?
Do you wear purple underwear?
Is it time to replace your toothbrush?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber...
