hunterseat df: Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat.

Although true, hunters DO eat, at least the skilled ones do, my name derives from the world of horses.

And because the word hunter is in my name, people automatically think I'm a guy. Not even close.

Whenever I meet someone named Hunter I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "That's my name, too!"

I Need Coffee

Posted 08-01-2014 at 06:12 AM by hunterseat

The pink and orange sign beckoned me. It had become a habit, turning into that donut shop every week when my job took me in this direction. Sometimes I even picked up a dozen donuts for the people where I was going. It starts with my not getting enough sleep and wanting a café latte. You know the story “as long as I’m here I’ll take one of those chocolate chip muffins”. Well, not this time. I didn’t need a muffin, I just needed a coffee. I’m not a big Duncan fan. I’m a big donut fan but that’s not what this is about – I’m trying not to fixate on the donut part… although I could sure use one right about now with my morning tea. (Chocolate, crème filled)

Where was I? Oh yes, I was in the parking lot of the restaurant next to Duncan Donuts. It was early, the restaurant was closed. It was where I would have to park if I wanted to go to Duncan Donuts anyway because of the other donut lovers out there who stopped for a “cup of coffee”. I wasn’t going to fall for that. I prefer Starbuck’s coffee – by default, really. I live with a coffee snob and he prefers Starbuck’s dark roasts of any variation. I’m usually a tea drinker but I’ve tried to understand his opinion so I’ve studied a bit. He hates DD coffee, honestly, but his hatred may stem from a time when he lived next to a DD drive-thru window. So close he could smell it when they burned a bagel.

“Starbucks” I speak into my Android Navigator. Have you ever done that? Used the voice thingy? I’m pretty challenged but I love my voice thingy. But now I’m waiting to see just how far the nearest Starbucks is. I’m nearly at my work location and my mind automatically chooses a number. The distance I’d be willing to go out of my way to have a cup of Starbucks coffee without all the pink and sprinkley donuts beckoning to me. I’m picturing 2.9 or some such reasonable distance. It always seems to take forever for this stupid navigator. I stopped watching the circle of death on the screen, you know, the little round spinning thing designed to make you think the device is still working. I began watching cars overflowing the donut parking lot. “I wonder which direction I’ll have to drive…” I muse, trying to see what kind of donut the lady driving off is eating.

I hear the voice of direction “you have arrived at your destination”. The donut thoughts disappear and my head whips down to the phone. Did I put in Duncan Donuts? Does this thing think I’m THAT stupid? Like it makes no difference which coffee I drink? Since I hadn’t had coffee yet I was thoroughly confused. The screen shows me a photo/picture of my destination. I have arrived. I squint and see a Starbucks on my screen. I raise my head and look through the windshield and across the street where I see – WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?? Oh happy day! I’ve arrived at my destination!

Within a very short time I’m sipping a lovely Café Latte, heading back down the road to make a site visit. When I walk in I hear “Did you bring anyone else a coffee?” To be fair, he missed the donuts last week. I’ll be stopping at Starbucks again next week. If I can make it past the pink and orange sign.
