At Easter Time

What better time to ask the question about conservative and liberal? Jesus came on the scene and begin to offer new ideas and had a new attitude toward the poor and the down and out.
At the wedding he seemed to enjoy himself and even made some additional wine.
He established the first mass feeding program known in history. He freed up some rules so that his disciples could walk a little further on the Sabbath and even eat as they went.
He healed even on the Sabbath and forgave a woman caught in adultery. His teaching about the distribution of wealth and what kind of kingship ought to expected and followed set the Pharisees on edge.
By contrast the pharisees did not want any changes in doctrine nor in how a society should be run. Surely one would have to brand the pharisees as being the ultimate conservatives of their day.
So with Pilots help they ended Jesus' short ministry on earth, however with the coming of the Holy Spirit as seen in Acts we see that little by little the rules were lifted to allow more people under the Lords tent. Chapter after chapter in Acts there was a liberalizing of rules so that as many as believed on Him gave He power to become the sons of God.
This is not to say that modern liberals are free from sin, not at all; for all have sinned and come short. The point is Jesus was far more liberal than the pharisees but I would guess that you have never heard that said from the pulpit.
