James Michener, said it 18 years ago.

In 1996, James Michener in," This Noble Land" had this to say; "the U.S. can now feed us and much of the rest of the world with fewer than 60% of the farm workers we have today and our factories can supply all the consumer goods we need with no more that 60% of the factory workers we have today. This means that we will have a permanent surplus of workers."
H. G. Wells in, A Short History of the World, said that, "no country has ever had enough work for all it's people." This brings us to a new chapter in our country about what to do about so much unemployment.
There is surely enough for everyone, if we were to think differently about the work ethic, in general, just as we think that there is enough air for everyone to breath, we could also could come to the realization that there is enough food and other essentials for all our citizens.
Historically nations have gone to war to keep everybody busy and also to reduce population. But why not use this surplus labor to enhance the infrastructure and to do a thousand other things. It has to do with how things are distributed. If the top 5% insist on keeping everything at the top then Michener says in his book then revolution is surely at hand.
