Yes, I Remember Where I was

It was near a perfect day here in the mid-south, that day of September eleventh, 2001. My daughter teaches at the local high school and we were keeping our four month old granddaughter. Those twinkling blue eyes had just begun to recognize us and my wife and I both delighted in coaching a smile out of her and sometimes a cute little laugh.
Out of the corner of my eye something had changed on TV, a silence, a new sound, something;
was it a trailer for a new horror film? Even the news anchors were still puzzled.
Then there was a replay, a real plane had actually hit the world trade center. From there the story unfolded, horror by horror. I remember saying, " this changes everything." Indeed it has!
The one thing I will mention here today is that it has changed how much our government has had to go into debt. They have wisely not told how much , because they do not want to give satisfaction to the enemy. Just take New York City alone, they multiplied their police force five times, now having 55,000, instead of 11,000 and some of those are stationed in many parts of the world, to detect and prevent trouble before it reaches our shores. Think of the cost.
