Food for Great Health

Posted 08-18-2012 at 01:39 PM by PsychMajor2

I have been learning about the health benefits of the foods that we eat. I found out that celery, onion, garlic, tomato, carrot, and saffron are all great for lowering blood pressure.

Foods that are good for the SKIN: canteloupe, tomatoes, berries, plums, sweet potatos, broocoli, spinach, carrots, flax seeds, walnuts, grapefruit, oranges, lean red meat, eggs, green tea, and of course water.

Foods that are good for the HEART: salmon, flaxseeds, oatmeal, black or kidney beans, almonds, walnuts, tuna, tofu, brown rice, blue berries, red bell peppers, asparagus, oranges, and dark chocolate.
I am slowly developing the habit of "Juicing". I like to have Celery Juice with apple, and sometimes I have Carrot Juice as well. Carrot Juice is quite beneficial to our health; it is extremely high in Vitamin A (which is needed for vision and eye health, as well as strengthening the immune system); it reduces the risk of heart disease; it provides blood sugar support; it improves lung function; it increases our vision; it is a super food and a powerful antioxidant.

Celery Juice, - reduces the bad cholesterol; it cleans the body; reduces stress; lowers blood pressure; aids prevention of cancer; and balances the body.

I also discovered that Tomato Juice is, great for diabetics (it is a natural blood thinner); it contains more than 50% of the daily vit C required (Vit C is good for iron absorbtion and "free radical "damage); it contains lypopene - an antioxidant which protects DNA in the white blood cells as well as assists in the prevention of heart disease.

Now, most of us have a sweet tooth, and that is okay if we exercise moderation. I discovered that having too much sweet in my daily diet can wreck havoc on my health. For example, eating half of a key lime or apple pie, or eating a half gallon of ice cream together with cookies can push us into the danger zone. The dangers of sugar - it surpresses the immune system; it promotes the storage of fat; it is linked to heart disease; and it increases the release of male hormones (ladies, we sure do not want this).

Note:
When we eat foods that are high in sugar, we are making way for rapid weight gain and elevated triglyceride levels - both of which have been linked to heart disease.
Okay that's enough to chew on. View the sources for more information on the above.
