Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Things Go Better With KOKE: An Austin Radio Rebirth
Just when the end of the world (as I saw it) ate up my life two years ago when Clear Channel Communications turned KVET-FM upside down because Tom Allen didn't want his "Country Gold Show" changed to cut out anything recorded before 1970, I had previously thought there was no hope when said program left the air for good. That is, until I just read something off of Mike McGuff's radio/television blog out of Houston. You won't believe the link I've found to get to this great news.
My Saturday mornings suddenly have meaning again. "The Country Gold Show" will be back in my life after all. It actually came back last Saturday and I missed it
, and it's also because your favorite blogger didn't hear about this in time. Oh, and it's on a new station, too. Austin, Texas, is in the midst of the revival of the old KOKE-FM after a few decades removed from the airwaves. It's located on 98.5 and 99.3 FM, is locally-owned (breath of fresh air?), and has streamlining available to listeners worldwide.

KOKE-FM's main focus is on progressive country favorites, classic country, and Texas music. Many moons and coyote howls ago, in the 1970s, it had been a progressive country station, and one way ahead of its time. Today, it's just giving Austinites something that KVET will no longer give its listeners. In addition to the great Tom Allen's return to the airwaves, there are two other former KVET jocks who are on the new station: Bob Cole (former KVET morning host) and Eric Raines (most recently KVET's midday guy, but he had also done afternoons and evenings). I have every reason now to listen and forget about KVET. It's pronounced Coke-f-m. Real simple, id-nit?? It won't quite have every little thing KVET had, but it will have the aforementioned Cole in the weekday mornings, Raines in the afternoons, Allen on Saturday mornings from 5 to 10 a.m. (Remember, this guy is retired!), and Cole hosting the "Sunday Morning Gospel Show" on Sunday mornings from 8 to 11.
This C-D poster's getting giddy again. And life, for another season, is good. Local radio. What a concept.

Now, it should also be noted that KOKE is trying to be its own station and needs no comparison to the old KVET. KOKE is trying to recapture that spirit of differentness and innovation that it once had in the 1970s, though the concept now is not new.Posted 07-23-2012 at 07:37 PM by case44

Glad you're happy again, and glad to see a new direction and a new radio station in an otherwise corporate-run world. Lots of people are giving up radio for that reason, but it's nice to know that there's still a contingent out there who are trying to keep radio relevant.Posted 08-03-2012 at 09:40 AM by malfunction
