Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Hey, Waiter, How About A Sample Of Spillage?

Posted 02-06-2012 at 06:40 PM by case44

Even if the entree I order at Olive Garden might be different than the one I had before, the other items stay the same: breadsticks, salad, iced tea, and a sample glass of the wine of the day. And wine samples do vary on most visits. Today, it was a red Principato.

Good choice that it is, I asked my waiter for today to pour me a sample. It was all I'd have for today, as my money is tight and I cannot get a full glass of wine. Maybe next visit, but we'll chase that rabbit then. So what happens on this latest breadbreaking? The waiter got a little overzealous and spilled some of the wine on the table next to the wine glass. And, of course, he apologized to me, wiped up the error on the table, and put the wine where it finally belonged: in the glass. Thankfully, said contents did not end up in my lap, or that really would have made a scene. The rest of the meal went well, but for some reason, we changed waiters midway through my experience (Wonder how that came about??). Besides, things didn't really go bad, but I can always get a good chuckle out of this. It's the nicest Olive Garden I've ever seen, anyway, being located in Frisco, Texas, and with exquisite interiors. The wait staff can be forgiven. Since it was a guy, I might have a lady pouring my wine next time.

Amazing, isn't it, how one dramatic moment of human error can become such a memorable event, for better or for worse?

    Funny.

I think it was 1988 when I was in an Expensive seafood restaurant in Coronado, across from downtown San Diego, and a waitress spilled about a gallon of iced tea (I think) directly on a family friend who took us out. She offered to wash his clothes(?), but he refused, and wanted a free meal. I don't think he got it, if I remember correctly. The food wasn't very good for the price, and neither was the family's experience, obviously. (I guess the place was brand new then, and so there were still a lot of kinks to be worked out, prob. similar to the OG you ate at. It did have a really nice interior and overlooked the bay and skyline. It's still there, but was recently purchased by a certain Houstonian who seems to own half of the River Walk restaurants, but that's a different topic.)

I hope it was iced tea.

Not that I wanted it to happen anyway.

Well, it didn't happen to me, so you may not have gotten your non-wish.

Well, at least he didn't spill the wine on your clothes. You have that to be thankful for.
