Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

New Computer Tower Means Big Adjustments

Posted 09-07-2011 at 05:59 PM by case44

Let's just say, for the record, that I've done everything I could to protect the first and only computer I've ever had. There were great memories and wonderful moments on that thing that I've enjoyed having in the bedroom of my 808-square-foot abode since 2006. It was easy to use until the speed started slowing down. Usually, that means things like viruses and unwanted "visitors" meant taking the tower to the shop for repairs.

And this morning, one more such pest, totally rendering my computer unusable. Enough had become enough, and while I was at work, I had decided to get a new tower rather than do another repair. I've kept the old monitor, so the rest of the components are new. Now, this will take some getting used to, as some of the features have changed considerably in this new "home". I have no word processor or a computer calendar, and those were great luxuries to have previously, but I'll have to live and let live going forward. I can't, after all, afford to install anything else. Not now. What I do have is a fully functional machine. All the icon features are different. How I have things minimized will be different, as I have to use my cursor to highlight a row (which ascends to the screen) to go from one window to another. The feel of the new keyboard is different. The overall experience will take some time. But what I do have now that I didn't in the last few months is blazing speed! Gotta love that!

Adjustments are practically part of life, I guess, like them or not. And computers have a human element if you think about it. They're vulnerable and they can break down. Oh, yeah, it was a $500 setback for me, but I might as well invest. And here I am...... right here ....... once again.

Your computer should have microsoft Works, and you can always look for 'free downloads', and see if you can get ahold of a calendar that you can put on your computer.

They have things such as clocks and other tid bits to put on the desktops, and freebies abound everywhere, but, do invest in a good antivirus, so that you dont get a virus, and have someone invade your new tower.

I had someone piggybacking on my email account, on hotmail and had to shut it down, (hotmail locked me out of it, when they found out, after 5 months), and wanted a mobile phone number to reactivate it, but, since I dont use it anymore, it really didnt matter...just one less one to worry about

    I wish you well...

I'm not too worried about not having a calendar, Jesse. I can add something one day, but I'll take what I've got now. The important thing is, I have lightning-fast speed on my computer. The old components were slowing down, anyway, so it was just time to retire the thing.
