What I observed in the 'Hood' this morning...

1. Some more things I observed in the 'hood' today while doing laundry... I observe...there is a very high level of distrust in the hood, amongst fellow habitators... Even when inside of a public place...every one plays 'dumb'... When asked the simplist of questions, the answer is usually...'I don't knoow'...(duh).... I add the 'duh' cause it's like an act... I mean if someones washing clothes, and using the dryer, and you ask a question about the timer, and they say 'duh...I don't know'...then you know it's a act... It's like a conditioned response or something... I guess in the hood, the less you know, the safer you are...but it can get annoying sometimes...this 'act'...this 'let's pretend I'm ignorant' act.... I also notice, many in the hood, have very low expectations for their co-habitators. In other words...when in the hood, every one looks upon everyone else like they just did something wrong, and therefore can't be trusted... This idea that all people in the hood, get along great and love each other...is a myth...there's a very high level of distrust and suspiscion. What you see in the music videos is just that...a video...fictitious comradity... I don't know if this playing dumb act is a carry over from colonial days, when blacks or poor whites faked like they had lower iq's in order to not arouse the suspicion of Plantation owners...or if it's a newly evolved adaptation to an enviornment that heavily frowns upon leaked information...or a mixture of both... But personally, when I see humans choosing to behave in such a 'dense' manner...purposely or not, it slightly annoys me... I would like to believe God, the creator, made us better than that... I'm probablly the loudest one in the hood, in as far as possitive or contructive things to say...I very rarely hear any other type of interaction going on between strangers...everything is like 'hush hush'... It just amazes me though, how at least in the southern hoods, people, males, and some females, go out of their way to 'act' extra dumb... No matter what question you ask...whether directions, or instructions on how to use something...99% of the response is always... 'I don't knoow'?..(duh).... That must be some left over colonialism slavery resigual stuff...cause I just don't get it... When I go to other neighborhoods, people love to step up and give you intelligent long answers...but in the hood it's just the opposite...(duh).... How can any people who embrace stupidity, ever expect to get ahead in life??...It really does baffle me...and as such, I have no pity on that particular class of city dweller... Anyways...just some thoughts based on real life events today...

2. True story in the 'hood' that just happened moments ago... I'm in a public place using my com****r today...and over the PA came an announcement... 'Dear patrons, there's a woman out in the parking lot who got her car lodged on a concrete parking pillar...if there are any strong men in the lobby...would anyone be willing to assist getting her car unlodged'... Let me tell you...there's all sorts of strong young males in here today...but not one...not a single one of them, got up to do anything... Accept of course myself....I stood up..looked over at all the males and said "Well come on guys, there's a lady out in the parking lot who needs our help"... And did you know not a single one of them stood up or took action!! How pathetic!! And that's the hood mentality for you...'look out for yourself and only yourself'... Sad to say, most of, if not all of the men were minorities...but healthy... If the same announcement had been given in a farm community (black or white or latino) I garuntee you half the room would of stood up and went outside to help... But that's just a small glimpse of the 'hood' mentality I've given you... Maybe had the room been filled with different church going men, it would of been different...I don't know. But the reality in this place today from the males was 'take take take, and give nothing back'... These strong young males couldn't, wouldn't even respond to a woman in distress...an older lady in a Benz... Well I went out there and got her car unlodged...and didn't ask for nothing...even though she was in a Benz... So again...don't be fooled by my photos... Looks and surface has nothing to do with it...it's all in the heart....

3. Lottery ticket purchases Over the last few days, and expecially today on my way somewhere...I stopped at several foreign owned or worked convient stores in the 'hood'... And the amount of lottery tickets people have been purchasing lately astonishes me... Many don't seem to work or have jobs, but walk around with wods of cash, and are able to buy large dollar amount lottery tickets...I'm talking $5, $10,$20 dollar tickets... The gargadge can at one store was full of 'no winner' discarded tickets.... And so I asked jokingly, to a few men in the store 'Where are people in the hood, getting all this disposable income to spend on lottory tickets?'... As someone who's struggling right now, trying to do things the right way, no government nothing, I'm just astonished at how much 'cash' people in the hood seem to have to spend on lottery tickets... Right now $20.00 would get me gas for the rest of the week...and some guy walks in and spends $60.00 on 3 $20.00 tickets...old and ragged guy... I'm hungry, trying to feed myself, pay bills, and buy gas so I can get to my new job, and the people around me are able to splurge their money on scratch off lottery tickets like it's candy.... Well it's there money, and their right to do so...but then I go to the library, and see how many young people are forced to use the libraries computers cause their own parents won't by them a inexpensive used or rebuilt PC... So instead they come to the library... But yet I see people spening the cost of a used computer, on lottery tickets, in a matter of days or a week... What's wrong with the priorities here?? Again...people can do what they want with their own money... I guess in my own time of need, I'm just astonished to see so many people in this southern hood, waste, dump, so much of their money into lottery tickets... Many are unemployed, yet walk around with big wods of cash in pockets or purse...and love to flaunt it while purchasing items at the convient store... Maybe one day I'll figure this place out...

5. The hood lacks culture and diversity... The hood, at least the area I'm at (southern city hood), really lacks diversity, and culture...there's no 'ethnic' flavor... Just a dry, kind of 'black and white' paste...or colonial residue. I don't consider being loud, ignorant, and listening to rap music, to be a culture... Nor do I consider wearing gold teeth, to be a culture either. I don't know...it may be an educational thing. Not always, but usually people who go on to college or the military, are exposed to much more, different people, different styles, concepts and as such their ability to recieve people not like themselves sometimes increases...not always though. As a minority, I actually prefer living in areas where the black population is very low...and where whole sides of town aren't segregated by color or poverty or crime. Also, I prefer living amongst a older, more mature populace. Where amongst other things, you can wear regular shorts, without being laughed at or sneered at... As summer approaches, I do not feel like wearing long goofy, gownish type attire...but if you don't, and walk around in any hoodish area, the younger guys do that whole 'hyena' sinister laugh thing when confronted with a style their not use to... I just find it so backwards... And again it comes from no cultural diversity in the hoods... No Richard Geres, no Billy Dee Williams anymore...all you seem to get now is a street hussle grown boyish type of mentality. I really don't see nothing great coming from this current generation of urban dwellers... I don't see no future scientist or great musicians, or phycologist or even a future Oprah....all I see is close mindedness... And when you actually talk proper and show or display class, they actually look at you as if your the one who's wierd... Sidney Portiar and other black acters from the past generation never used all that colonial broken english crap. Listen to some of the old movies from the past...or even 'Night of the living dead'...(the original one in black and white)...1968? The main actor or star in that movie was a black guy, and he displayed such intellegence and spoke using correct vowls and syllables...and was very confident throughout the movie... And this was 1968... It seems from 1988 to current, the standards have just started going down again... And that's about the time crack cocaine hit the streets and rap music begin to dominate the air waves...interesting... When I leave out the hoodish areas, I can actually have conversations with people...even young people... In the southern colonial hood areas, all conversations are reduced to quick street utterances... It's a mentality and mindset I wish had never arrived, and would just go away... But unless people send their kids away from the hood to private schools to learn some style and ediquate...I just don't see how it's going to happen...

6. Living in the hood can and is hazardious to your health... It's as if there's a 'moral vaccum' in the hood...missing amongst many younger males (13-25)...it just doesn't seem to be there. I've learned you can't expect others to respect your life and property, when they don't even respect thier own. The high arrest rate amongst younger males, is what really sets the tone...the system is taking young males between 13-25, and locking them up or giving them records for all sorts of trivial things, that guys in other communities would just get a slap on the risk for... But in the 'hood', it sets a tone for hopelessness and self hate, amongst people living in close proximity to one another. Take a young male, strip him of his ability to find work, and what do you have left? You have a young or create a young ego, who listens to rap 24/7, and these rap artist brag about crime, and revenge, sexual exploit, anger ect ect... Now this may look good on the cover of 'Source Magazine' or on some rap video...but in reality, when you got to live next to and around people who embrace this 'darkness'...it can frankly be scary and upsetting. Living around people who have 'nothing to loose' and never had anything to dream for, puts you at a great disadvantage... There is no color in the hood None, just one grey tone of anger, ego, rudeness and pride. But it's not the healthy type of pride, rather it's a pride spurned on from insecurity, a kind of 'I'm cornered against the wall so I'm not going to let you push me around anymore' type of pride. You routinely see people in cars not using their blinkers, youngsters walking down the middle of the street like their 'gods'... People dropping litter on your lawn...and just other general signs of 3rd world behavior. Or worse yet, signs of being raised in a moral vaccum, signs of being raised without 'authority' in the home, no meaningful father, no plan... And in it's abscensce you see anger, bitterness, rage, all at the age of 7...kids mimic what they see in the home... And then these homes unleash this stuff, these attitudes, onto the rest of society to deal with... It's sad...but mainly for innocent by-standers who have to witness this stuff, or are victims to it... My only solution is to leave, after while you realize you can't change it, all you can do is leave it behind...

7. In the hood, people cannot extend or give, what they've never been given... And that's respect, and kindness, and hospitality... If one has never seen or observed certain principles, than it's near impossible for them to extend them to you. (whether in the hood or anywhere else) Also, if people or someone doesn't see much value in themselves, there not going to see it in you... If they were raised up and around shifty eyed husslers, than that's what they will always think of you...even if they manage to rise up and out and get a decent job... They fail to see the flaw in their own reasoning... And often become the worst type of self hating racist there are...they take that internal 'hate' and project it onto others. Sometimes their portrayed in movies like 'Boys in the hood'...that one black cop that would always drive around harracing young males, and using the 'n' word. That black cop was full of self hate, got a job with authority, and instead of helping the youth, terrorized them. My comments are based on daily, real life observations... And it's scary the things I see, hear, and observe...expecially when the sun goes down...cause you just never know...gun shots, whatever... Dumping money into schools will not help...it all begins in the home, dicipline, teaching kids to fear God, respect adults and authority, to love others and themselves. To make them feel apart of this nation, to make them feel like they 'matter'...that they are a part of something bigger than themselves... But until you fix that, pumping billions into failing school systems will do know good...it's not about equiptment, it's about ethics...and ethics cost nothing to teach in the homes...

8. Outside of Christ, I'm starting to realize all souls are 'rotton' self serving... During the civil rights era, many of those on the front lines were very 'religious' or church goers, rightieous types...they were motivated by the love of God, salvation... Many in the hood no longer follow that template...a few yes, but the majority, no. Freedom and liberty has done to the 'black' community, what it did to Isreal of old...the whole drift and worship the golden calf thing... It's all superfiscal and about money now...like any other community I guess... I would like to continue, but am out of battery power...

9. The longer I stay here, the less happy I am as a person... As some one who's use to being 'free'...life in or around the hood is very culterly represive. When I lived across town in a much more economically and mature, and ethnically diverse area...I felt happy and free... But even then and there, the hood element was slowly closing in, and driving long time stable people away... It's a no win situation for all...cause it forces everyone to be suspicious of everyone... it's like trying to integrate the '1 B.C.'.... with the '21st century'...in regards to behavior and general social patterns... Then you throw in the criminal element, and violence...and it just becomes unbearable after a while... Can't even walk down the street without suspicious criminals thinking this or that about you... Living in areas like this just represses the soul, unless your from the hood, and know of no other place... if the hood is all one has to measure life by, than obviously their perspective will be different... But when you've lived and experienced other things, and then come to the hood...it just drains the life out of you...your creative spirit... Not all 'hoods' are the same...I'm sure they vary, have different flavor to them, as well as ethnic make-up. It's just the un broken pattern of bad social habits that sets the tone in most. When I'm in the hood, I can't even dialogue with people...males, by the time you've completed a full complete sentence, they've lost interest... Attention spans are short... And so are vocabularies.... Oh well...so goes it...

10. 	I'm not a hateful person...I just see dark forces at work in the 'hood' that destroy lives...young lives... Very short sighted forces...that aren't interested in the future... Maybe in the future, if things stabilize for me, I can try to counter balance these dark forces, by offering some hope and direction...

11. Every night, gun shots, from souless, futurless ghouls... Because they don't have a future, they don't mind robbing you of yours... It's a small percentage of rogue souls, who seem to set the tone for the whole hood... Most work, come home, and just want to be left alone... But then you have that rogue, criminal element, that terrorizes everyone... Their always suspicious and edgy...can't even ride your bike up and down the road, without them getting suspicious... Can't even have hobbies like photography, without the criminally paranoid thinking your an undercover agent... Basically, all you can do is sit at home, and stay out of the way or sight of these socially regressive types... They are a drain on your soul, spirit, and society...

12. The hood produces very 'racist' black women... What I mean by that is...a lot of women who come from that enviornment...become some of the fiercest racist you will ever encounter...as a male of color... A lot of young women, young black or white or latino women...get used hard, by 'hood' males...they have multiple kids, get hooked on this or that...but as they age and mature...a certain 'hostile' deminor developes inside of them... When these women finally grow up...they realize certain things...they want what other women in stable communities have...a stable life, a house, and a responsible man... Many of these women become ardant 'racist' in that for the rest of their lives they associate all males of color with the 'hood scum' males who wrecked thier lives... When these women are hired onto positions dealing with the public...you, as a male of color, become a target of their rage and lost dreams... These women seem to find refuge in the 'white world'... And see all males of color as a threat to their dignity... And don't hesitate to take it out on you... Even though you had nothing to do with their past... They associate your color or shade with all the guys that let them down in their past... As such..they become some of societies worst racist you will ever encounter... But on the other side...it's time they take some responsibility also...and quit falling for looser males. Stop giving it up so easily... If it's not rape, than it's mutual...and ladies must take responsibility for that... Don't only date or get romantic with 'scum'...and then later stereotype all males of color with your past... Again, take responsibility for your past...and realize you made poor decisions...instead of handing that responsibility to males of color whom you've never met and don't know... Not all males of color are from the hood... And stop allowing your daughters to dress like Lil Kim.. And try seeking men in church, instead of on the streets...

13. Randomn thoughts... when you don't live in the hood, the hood can seem like a 'colorful' 'vibrant' place...where people party and get along and have large block parties...like in music videos... But in reality...hoods are places of pain and tragedy...lost dreams and burnt out lives...and few smiles...that's the reality of it...I see it every day. There's nothing 'colorful' about the hood or those with the 'hood' mentality. That mentality keeps them 'locked' out of many things, opportunities. Young males, with criminal records, soon become old males who gather around the Salvation Army for free food handouts 3 times a day... Or they just decide that Prison will be their home for the rest of their lives...sad thing is though, is that they usually have to victimize someone to get there... And females raised in the hood, barely know how to interact with a man of 'class' even when they meet one or one shows interest. To them, regardless of what they say or write, 'hood' has become a standard. Anything outside of that, they don't recognize. Or see it as a clever scam or 'game'. They may dream of meeting a Billy Dee Williams type, but when they do, don't know what to do with him. Cause when you meet someone of your dreams, you then have to start looking at yourself, and that makes many uncomfortable... Again, hood life, is a conditioned culture...it's not a 'race' or 'color' or 'ethnic group'... It's a conditioned culture, that anyone raised there can adopt as a way of life...from speech to dress to mentality. And in my opinion it cheats many out of a much better way of life.

14. The most racist people... First off...what I'm about to write...those here on city-data are 'exempt'...in other words it doesn't apply to you... Weak flawed minds abound everywhere in the hood, and amongst minorities... Where self hatred abounds....wow...amazing... Rather it applies to those I encounter on the streets, in stores, and daily interaction... Ignorant 'blacks'...are the worst enemy of other blacks... Just like ignorant Latinos are the worst enemy to other latinos...ignorant whites, are the worst enemy to other whites...and so on... What all the above lets me know is 'human nature' not color, is what dictates human behavior... It's human nature...the need to feel 'better than' and or the need to 'level'... I see the same spirit manifest it'self in all... I see it, am the target of it... And it's sad that most don't recognize it within themselves... When your 'flawed' and don't recognize that flaw...that's when it becomes scary... And there are a lot of 'flawed' souls in the ebony community... On both spectrums...from the hood spectrum, to the 'I've succeeded and am now better than you' spectrumn... To the 'I know your nature' spectrumn... To the 'I'm going to condescend to you' spectrumn... In other words...blacks can't accuse whites of anything...it's all human nature... Blacks can't accuse whites of doing exactly what they do to themselves and others... The same spirit of 'evil' can dwell, and manifest itself within anyone... Living in the hood, I see it all the time...coming from non-whites... Everyone is guilty of it, not just 'whites'... But at least the 'whites' have a better justification than do blacks who do it to blacks...or latinos who do it to latinos or indians who do it to indians... There is no strength in the hood...it's all built around insecurities and self hatred...there is no strength or love... The longer I'm here, the more I see that...rather it's all build around 'protecting frailties'...protecting self...but in a ungodly manner... The solution doesn't lie within man, that's for sure... to be continued....

15. crack cocaine and other drugs will turn you into a monster... This is scary to observe in induvisuals who have normal faces and deminors..and then when they get on that stuff, you witness the transformation...it's scary... It's scary and sad... Most in the hood do not use drugs...that may come as a suprise...but most do not...sell yes...use, no.... Drugs are expensive...and the rich or more likely to use drugs than the working poor... I observe this daily... But every now and then...you will see a poor person get caught up on that stuff..and it's scary...crack changes your appearence like Meth.... It's scary to watch...it's like a demon takes over the soul... You watch as a young soul is wrecked, aged, destroyed...all for a 'hit'... So sad....

16. Hey, look on the bright side, at least you didn't get shot at or stabbed! I'm not black or white (Thank God! Also not Mexican, Thank God more!) but I have been attempted to be killed by over 6 white men, so I don't know how much safer one would be living amongst Caucasians. Whites may not throw Taco Bell food near your car (a grave injustice if there ever was one), but they won't hesitate to stick a knife in your face or valiantly attempt to run you over with their dilapidated car/pickup truck! Before you go on ranting and raving about the 'hood,' an area that you know nothing about, maybe you should focus on the moral bankruptcy and sheer ruthlessness of the white "man.". Could you imagine surviving in the 'hood?'. You wouldn't last one day based on your indignation of the treacherous food near your car issue. It's called survival, there's a reason that blacks in the hood behave the way they do. There's a reason that they are unable to trust each other. It is painfully obvious that you don't have the mental much less physical fortitude to make it out of such an area. I'm not supporting blacks but I'm also not promoting your white smugness. You're not perfect either, a fact that is clearly evidenced by your egregious spelling errors. The white man is on the decline, which is why white women, more and more, are becoming aware of their glaring deficiencies in character and moral fiber and are resultantly, running away from them. If this takes them to the 'hood,' so be it. She's probably safer there anyway-
