Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

Will Time Ever Slow Down? Or, Where Has The Year Gone?

Posted 07-29-2010 at 03:46 PM by case44

We say this just about every year, but it keeps coming up. Where did the precious year of 2010 go? Oh, it's here, but we already are well into the third quarter and somebody will probably go get that Thanksgiving turkey real soon and chuck it in the freezer. Didn't we just have April? I mean, spring sprung a little too fast that we swear there's a trampoline in my apartment complex's parking lot, and now, we're suddenly deep in the middle of summer. Baseball is about to give way to football just when it seemed like Opening Day was only yesterday. It's nearly August, so it's a matter of time before Christmas decorations are brought visible into stores everywhere. And I just turned 44, prompting me to ask, "Where did 43 go?"

Let's face it: If this keeps up, your blog buddy, case44, will be a graybeard before anyone knows it. I'll be wondering where the best place is to purchase a cane. My blog subjects will then be about Metamucil, AARP membership, and senility, and those will not be much fun to write. Sooner or later, I'll have arthritis and then I........(~gulp~)......won't be able to type. Some days drag and others fly, they say. You wonder sometimes why the twenty-four hours we spend each day can't drag more often. Why? That question will assuredly never be answered as long as you have both of those things, plus breath and brainpower. I know it's just a state of mind, but I'm thankful to even get this far in life. Guess what? Another five seconds have just passed as I typed that last sentence. Five precious extra seconds in life. What a gift! That the fact that I wake up on a new day is reason enough to rejoice. But then, every year, the purchase of a single new calendar gets earlier and earlier.....

So, if I'm not careful, that Christmas gift I intend to get will take place in February. I'm pretty danged sure the recipient will understand.
