How to Twitter Your Way Into Being Burglarized
Posted 12-10-2009 at 05:31 AM by MikeJaquish
Who's following you on Twitter? Are you telling your personal business to countless people you don't know?
Seeing reports from across the country.
"Man Tweets while on vacation. Comes home to ransacked house."
Smart Tweet:
"Just home from a week at the beach. Great sun, surf, seafood."
Less Smart Tweets:
"Off to the beach for a week. Back next Sunday"
"Going out for Gulf Stream fishing today. See you tomorrow. Maybe."
All you have to do is search the internet for "Twitter Burglary," and you get the stories, many blaming burglaries on tweets that tell of vacant properties.
Twitter can be used by crooks, just the same as they use funeral notices to target attendees' vacant homes, or look for multiple newspapers laying in a driveway.
Tweet smart. Don't tell the world that no one is home and don't let just anyone follow you.

Good points Mike. I have thus far not entered into the world of twitter, but have been considering it as of late. I can't quite figure out what the benefit is or how this media can be used to my benefit. Never thought of what the pitfalls could be until finding this blog post.
BTW, I came across your post doing a google search about twitter. Who gives the best exposure? Twitter or city-data? hmmmmmPosted 01-04-2010 at 04:45 PM by North_Raleigh_Guy
