my younger sister is moving to Baltimore next month. Her boyfriend is doing a graduate program, so they will be there a few years. We both currently reside in Minneapolis, and I would say we're both pretty smart about city life and what not.

Baltimore as a whole is more dangerous than Minneapolis, this I know, but I also realize that like most big cities, the vast majority of sinister crime is committed amongst drug dealers/gang members and the like.

Anyway, she is looking between the 600 and 800 blocks of Park, and from what I can tell the neighborhood seems pretty quiet. The occasional stick up here and there being about the worst, but that tends to be the same as the neighborhoods we are in now. Am I right in my thinking that its probably an ok spot?

Correct. That area is fine, no major problems there.

I used to live on the 800 block of Park Avenue and loved it. You can walk everywhere, lots of stuff to do (restaurants/clubs/central branch of public library, close to downtown), fairly safe. Beautiful architecture. You have to employ standard city street smarts and especially late at night, if you're coming home from bars, be alert. And don't leave a backpack or CDs on the front seat of your car (duh). But overall, pretty safe and fun.

Park avenue is wonderful for quietness and neighbors. Maryland avenue, Charles st and St. Paul are more centered but can be really noisy (bars, foot traffic and bus lines). I would recomment 700 block or 800 block though. Below 600 block is considered bad and so further up is better. I also live in 800 block and highly recommend it.
