Anybody run one in their car? With all of the craziness on the roads I'm thinking about getting two - one for the front windshield and one for the rear window.

Prices and quality seem to be all over the place.

I know of some snow removal business that use them to keep an eye on things.
When they share there vids the quality is surprisingly good,.

We're thinking of installing them too.

A coworker of mine runs one in his personal car. I think he has it set up to start on when the ignition turns on.

For what its worth, I can use my Droid with the car mount as a decent dash cam. But even with the video camera short cut that pops up in "car mode", I don't want to have launch it and hit "record" every time I get in the car. Perhaps I could get someone to write an app that would launch and start the video camera as soon as it was mounted in the car mount. (FYI, I believe the Droid car mount I have has a small magnet that triggers an "car mode" app)

I've used them in quite a few fleets for safety and accident purposes. The ones I have used are tied to software that tracks sudden events and then stores the events in the harddrive, usually 15 seconds of video before and after the event. They have come in very handy many times. Some aftermarket head units are now actually being marketed with the wiring and things already present to hook one up if you are so inclined. Personally, I have never considered one in my own car, but whatever floats your boat. If you are on the road a lot travelling for your job, then it may be worth it.
