Indy is NOT THE Race for Loyal NASCAR fans as the OP pointed out.. not even close.. it's probably about 10th on most loyal fans list of must see RACES in NASCAR... that being said, I did notice the stands were EMPTY, BIG TIME In places.. wow...
Unfortunately, the 400 has always been a fairly boring race. I watched it and enjoyed it for the most part but its nothing like a Daytona, Talladega, Bristol or even Charlotte night race.. its just NOT! The Track is TOO WIDE and yet only has ONE groove.. the corners are too flat and the field gets so spread out that the action is few and far between.. not a super entertaining race by any standard.. I would expect any penny wise NASCAR fans looking for a race or two to attend would skip Indy every time in favor of a far superior race at almost any other venue.
However, It does point out the struggle NASCAR faces getting folks to the track. Until the races are pulled from ESPN, NBC, FOX etc.. i will not worry too much about it. Sure, teams will loose sponsors but that might just bring the big teams back to the middle of the pack which I don't have a problem with!.
I think the economy has alot to do with it ;noitced that mnay F! are also not seeling out even with limit races. Also mnay are stayig at home with coverage. NASCAR seems fine tho when you look at the massive coverage on sports networks compared to any other auto racing. Now days telvision rights are perhaps the key to profits more than ever.this isn;t the old NASCAR in wehich only the huge races get television coverage and track attendance is key to profits.
As a 40 year fan of NASCAR even I am getting bored with it. It's time to stop the post race inspections. Let the boys "cheat" and bring back the fender rubbing attitude that made Nascar exciting.
I am afrid that your NASACAR$ is gone forveer as that is not what made it such a popualr sport with its gains in fans nationwide. its like the old football. perhaps ypou need to go to some local racesa as mnay of them are more like that with even some fist fights .That does go over well with large national sponsor drivers represnt. poerson ally i like the racing not the wrestling type atmosphere;but to each his own.
56'000 sold out at Iowa for the natinowide. Pretty good for a secondary series;IMO.
