I move in 2 weeks to near Sun Valley and need a good neighborhood to do my internet search in.. I don't really want to rent in a corporate property,

Sunset Valley is kind of an unusual place. There are older homes with great big lots - sort of semi-rural. This area looks like the berbs of Austin just grew around the community of Sunset Valley. Then there is an area of newly developed condos and apartments (I think - I have not examined these closely) which includes a nice, new, but small City Hall. Then there is a big area (maybe as big as the residential area) that is shopping - strip malls, big box stores, restaurants, which I assume all supports the community through taxes. This commercial area is used by all the surrounding parts of Austin, not just Sunset Valley. It is in a pretty convenient location for accessing downtown Austin as well as the attractions, restaurants and such of south Austin. I'm sorry - I don't know anything about apartments and rentals.

You will be close to downtown and rent is this are will be a HELL OF A LOT CHEAPER than living more central. As far a culture and style, this area may be lacking. Maybe check out south Lamar; I think that will have the vibes that you are seeking and close to Sunset Valley.
