Hello
I just recently accepted a job in North Austin. At the sametime i would like to live in south Austin.
Does anyone know the commute time during rush hour 730-8AM heading north?
And if the time would be reduced taking an Alt route?

FROM:
78741

TO:
9500 Metric Blvd #100, Austin, TX 78758

Route1: 35 to 183
Route2: 71 to 360 to Mopac1

Thanks for your help

Short answer: probably long.

Although, you are at least a little closer in than some of the commuters and at some point in your commute you will 'flip' the flow of traffic and be going away from a lot of commuters. Just a guess, but I would think you would need to budget at least 45 minutes, although some days would be more or less, and with that distance/route the variation in time could be pretty big. Google maps shows 25 minutes right now, but not sure I buy that, and I just chose the center of 78741.

Traffic opens up once you reach the split deck but is usually pretty terrible before that, especially around oltorf/riverside area. It's even congested there on the weekends

Route 2 gets pretty congested, you would not be alone making that trek north, and there are several traffic lights and one-lane turns involved where one simple fender bender brings the whole thing to a screeching halt.

135 would probably be a better bet but much depends exactly where you get on, usually traffic is the heaviest right around 8 am. It will open up quite a bit at the decks and then at 51st street, and then slow down again.

Not much fun really either way.

There is an option 3 - loop out east to 183 and take that straight up. If I35 is a cluster, this might actually be quicker, but it depends on where in 78741 you are. You are looking at about 30 minutes for this route in normal AM traffic.

It's actually going to be the ride home that's going to be worse than the AM commute. I don't know why this is, but it's always 15 minutes longer.
