I tried looking through old threads but only found one other with no replies, so here we go.

My parents are moving back to Austin (haven't lived here from the 80s, so LOTS has changed... but they are slowly moving down stuff. They are looking for a safe storage unit in any greater Austin area. Obviously best bang for your buck is what we are looking for here. Nothing super valuable will go in, just all the junk they want out of there while they are selling their home in Chicago. We have been driving around looking for them, but we ourselves have only been here since March. Any help would be appreciated!

I know there are a couple of coupons in the Entertainment Book--likely similar to deals they might advertise(first month free or really cheap...that sort of thing). Uncle Bob's comes to mind...I'm happy to pass along the coups if you want them. Looks like they have a few locations:
Uncle Bob's Self Storage - 5547 McNeil Drive, Austin, TX 78729

Depends on if they want it climate controlled or not. Used Public Storage for this, they were running first month free. Way too expensive and not rodent/insect free environment.

Personally, I'd shop around for cheapest, more secure location (fenced in, alarmed, etc.).

Good luck! Jeff

Watch out for coupons and discounts and first month free offers. The only thing that matters is the total cost over time.

Generally the lowest rates will be the independent units out on the fringes. Highest will be the national chains in close.

they might do better to just get of their stuff and then buy new stuff when they move. Most things arent worth the cost to move and store.

Agreed...and since velvet's only a few months reMOVED, perhaps a little personal experience persuasion is in order? Make sure they know that 'less is more', especially as you get older and try to move stuff 1100 miles.

I just heard about this Austin tech startup that helps people find storage space:

Search for Self Storage Units | SpareFoot.com

I have no affiliation with this company and I haven't used them. Just looks like a cool resource.
