Hi mkberl--I am German---many generations since my father's people arrived here. I am a native Atlantan and have worked with non native speakers--school teacher.

Here is Google's list of places to learn English--other posters may have specific reccomendations for you>>>>
engish as a second language atlanta ga schools - Google Search

If you are a real estate agent in Germany--why not do that here? George Chong and Intown??--always forget the last part of her username--are real estate agents and very helpful. I'm certain they would tell you what you need to do to sell real estate in Atlanta.

Welcome to the US and just ask if you have further questions about Atlanta. This forum is filled with people who enjoy sharing what they know about living here.

hth

Hi Mike. Finding a job in Atlanta based on German-language skills can be tough, but it's not impossible. There are many German companies with operations here (a list can be obtained from the German CoC for the Southeast, which is based in Atlanta) and from time to time you'll see a position posted, usually of an administrative or sales nature. I would do searches in the major job search engines like monster, narrowing down the city and entering German as a keyword.

This may take quite a lot of persistence though, for sadly, as you may know multilingual skills are not necessarily in high demand in this country, at least not German. But don't despair. If you're flexible about the job you're willing to take, opportunities do arise here from time to time. So viel Glück!

Siemens has a large presence in the Atlanta area. No idea what the need may be for a German speaking employee. Many German companies, such as BMW at their plant in SC, bring folks over from Germany when they need bilingual skills.

Do you have a good speaking voice? What about voice over work?

At an old job of mine we used to contract for German voice over work. The lady we used got a lot of business from us.
