I will be taking a job in the Stone Mountain area and am looking for areas around the North Druid Hills part of Atlanta to live. Or closely surrounding areas. Unfortunately my budget will not allow for much more than around $550 a month for a one bedroom apartment. Any information on any of those areas would be greatly appreciated.

You might save yourself some time by contacting an apt locator service such as ProMove.

There are many apts along N. Druid Hills, Clairmont and Briarcliff Rds--you could drive by and check them out yourself. Do a Google search for Toco Hill to get some names. Some of them probably offer some discounts.

OP, you will do better if you up your range for 650 in the N. Druid Hills area, unless you are willing to have a roommate. You may also want to look at Tucker which has easy access to N. Druid Hills and Stone Mountain or portions of Decatur that are a short drive to 78.

Good Luck

$550 is pretty low for the area and I would agree that if possible, you should up your budget to at least $650. There are some cheaper places on N. Druid Hills Rd. east of Clairmont Rd. but I can't attest to their quality or how the commute would be to Stone Mountain. Longwood has 1 bedrooms for approx. $650 but you get what you pay for versus $800-900.

OP, also look at total costs. Is the unit electric and gas? Are their separate water/sewage charges? What about trash valet service? Are any other fees forced in the rent: electricity, cable?

This can easily take your fees up an additional $120 dollars or more.

This is also Atlanta, wear and tear on apartment units will be excessive, even in the Druid hills / Emory area.

Don't rent on impulse. Search, ask a ton of questions. Drive by the community after hours or weekends if non-gated.

Promove can be helpful to scout complexes based on your preferences.

Agreed. I pay approx. $200/month on my 720 sq foot 1 br for cable, internet, gas, electric, and a W&D. My rent also includes $30 for water (although I don't know how much it would be if I paid for it personally)
