Hi! My husband and I are moving to Atlanta in 1 month and are torn on where we want to live. Ideally we like Virginia Highland for it's location and style, but rentals seem limited so we need to look elsewhere. He is leaning towards the suburbs and I am leaning towards something in the city. What are some good in between neighborhoods/towns? In town neighborhoods with single family/small complexes and some parks/trees or walkable suburbs with vibrant downtowns. Our budget is 2k for a 2 bedroom.
We need to be on the northwest side of the city as he will be working near interstate north parkway.(intersection of 75 and 285)

Check Vinings - this would be an excellent location for your husbands job. Are you looking for a house or an aparment? You can also check around the Smyrna Market Village. This would be a suburb but it would also be a great location for your husband.

Thank you! We'd be open to an apartment or a house. If we went with an apartment we would prefer something in a multi-family rather than a big complex, we're very anti-generic box set-up.

Vinings, West Village, Smyrna Market Village, and downtown Marietta are all nice walkable areas in Cobb County close to work for your husband. Marietta predominantly has houses while the others have a good mix of townhouses/apartments mostly. If you want to stay more in town probably Atlantic Station or Midtown but those are going to be a longer commute but still doable.

Vinings and Smyrna would both offer a lot of townhome rentals in your price range - these are not typically big complexes

Vinings is a great suggestion. Convenient to town, your DH's work and a desirable neighborhood to boot.

Another Vinings vote here. Easy drive to Atlanta or Buckhead for having fun/shopping. Easy drive to the river trails if you like to walk or jog in a pretty environment (a couple of different areas actually). We moved to the Decatur area and I can't tell you how much I miss the Cochran Shoals trails. You can walk/jog anywhere from 1.5 miles to three or four times that if you go off into the wooded trails. Such and underrated part of our city.
