Johns Creek/Roswell Elementary Schools (house, neighborhoods, middle school)

We've narrowed our neighborhood search down to Roswell & Johns Creek. Can anyone with first hand experience comment on these elementary schools, i.e. student-to-teacher ratio, extra curriculars, academic rep, gifted and talented programs, proximity to residential neighborhoods, general school appearance ? Are there waiting lists at any of the schools ? Do kids get bussed out of their zoned areas ?

Roswell

• Hillside
• Northwood

We've heard good things about Shakerag and Dolvin, but are looking for more info. Thanks !

The schools are all run by Fulton county, and I think they are all about the same level (most of them have the same ranking on greatschools website. Some of the info you are asking is probably available on greatschools). The significant difference between Roswell and JC school-wise is many JC schools have a higher Asian population.

There are probably other factors that differentiate Roswell and JC. School ranking-wise they are probably not that different.

Personally, I'd avoid Hillside. Northwood is almost the same in terms of size of school, avg. experience of teachers, and demographic breakdown of the student population, but it scores significantly higher on standardized tests.
I don't know too much about Johns Creeks schools, but I've heard good things about Barnwell and Dolvin, and they feed into a great middle school.

You might want to check out the rezoning info on the fulton county school website. A new high school is opening next year, so they had to mess around with some of the school boundaries and feeder paths. Not sure if any of these schools were affected, but it's something to keep in mind. You wouldn't want to do all this research and settle into a house based on it being zoned to School A this year only to find out you're actually zoned to School B next year.
