What extracurricular (i.e., off-campus, not school-sponsored) volunteer opportunities are there for 13-17 year olds in Atlanta?

Check this place out - www.projectopenhand.org. Great organization and they have a office in Atlanta.

There's tons! I'll name just a few (that I'm personally familar with)

Georgia Special Olympics is always looking for volunteers - anything from manning a water station at a race to helping sell raffle tickets at ballgames to numbering floating ducks for the Duck Derby.

Nicky's Seafood (on Whitehall) downtown provides meals to the homeless every Sunday - help is always welcome!

There's a hippotherapy center in Snellville that is always looking for good volunteers - involves horses and kids.

The HUGS project sends packages overseas to the troops and makes cooling ties and holiday stockings - always welcome there.

If all this fails, I'd have the teen check with the office at their school - I'm sure they could come up with some - maybe even helping out various booster clubs within the school.

I'm delighted to see that a young person is interested in volunteering - I've raised my son that way - I've always gotten involved in projects/programs that welcome younger people.

Of course I'd be a full time philanthropist if I could!

PM me if you need more info on any of these.
