I am a LATE Senior gal - and am contemplating a move from Hot Spgs to Fort Smith. { BOTH ARKANSAS }
Is this a safe town to live in ? AND, what iare the neighborhoods to AVOID ? Please if someone can

Move to Van Buren, instead, just across the river. Much more interesting. That's just my opinion, of course. Or go on up to Mountainburg, if you want a little more space. Pretty little tiny town, and not far at all from Ft. Smith/Van Buren/Alma.

They are both pretty safe, I would say. You can look them both up here on City Data and look at the crime stats. I believe Van Buren will be a little safer than Ft. Smith.

I agree with luvvarkansas; Van Buren which is almost the same as Ft Smith is a better town. As for safety, yes, both areas are as safe as you can get almost anywhere.

Van Buren is also just more "interesting"...hilly, a neat old downtown with lots of local shops.

Of course, I think Ft. Smith has an old downtown also (I've never been to it), but Ft. Smith is just flat and "bland"....that's the impression I got from it when I was there.

I guess it just depends on whether you prefer hills or flatlands.
