Hi, I will be moving to the Clarksville area in the next few months and am looking for any information I can gather about the city. I am unfamiliar with the city and the surrounding areas. If anyone could give me any information on rentals, housing, the schools or job possibilities I'd appreciate it.

Clarksville is a nice little town of 4,000 to 5,000 residents situated on I-40 about an hour and a half east of Ft. Smith and 2 hours west of Little Rock. C'ville is considered to be in the river valley, but it's just a few minutes from the mountains. My brother has a farm just north of town and the view of the mountains to the north and west is great.

There is a small private college, The College of the Ozarks, in C'ville that has received a lot of money from the Walton (Wal-Mart) family over the years. Larger employers would be the Sara Lee hosiery plant, Tyson Foods and Wal-Mart's distribution center just south of town. Russellville, which has about 40,000 ?people is only 30 minutes east.

There are a lot of recereational opportunites in this area of the state. Fishing and boating on the Arkansas River, canoeing and swimming on the Piney, hunting for ducks and deer in the river bottoms. It's also a great starting point for my favorite pastime. Motorcyclists enjoy riding in the Ozark mountains as many of Arkansas' most popular mototcycling roads are within 30 minutes of C'ville.

As for the schools, while I don't know about school performance, the primary and secondary schools look very nice as all have been either built new or updated within the past 10 years.

Summers can be pretty hot and humid for those not accustomed to such weather. Not nearly as uncomfortable as here in south Arkansas though. Winter occasionally brings ice and snow, but mostly just colder weather. As for job opportunities you might try contacting the city chamber of commerce. Kind of hard to address that issue without knowing what areas of employment you're looking at.

Oops, I forgot that C of O was renamed a few years ago. It's now The University of the Ozarks. The School of the Ozarks, a small college just outside of Branson, MO then began using the name College of the Ozarks.

Also forgot about the Baldor plant that's in C'ville.

Hello,
I don't know if you are in Clarksville yet, but welcome!
I would like to invite you to the city park church of Christ (yes, at the city park). Welcome.
The city park is also really a great park.
I hope you love the area.
