There's a lot more to do in Tucson and sure, the summers are hot (not as hot as Phoenix, though!) , but the winters are wonderful.
North of UofA pretty diverse. South side/west of 10 very Hispanic.

It was advised that I go visit Tucson, however... I keep thinking about the hotter weather down there... and if it's anything like Phoenix... eh... I better not even waste $650 on a roundtrip plane ticket to just confirm it. Know what I mean?
I would get to the Tucson area before you decide. Just rent a car and drive down next time you're in the Prescott area. Tucson is cooler and greener than the Phoenix area. Check out Marana & Oro Valley which are north of Tucson. And than go further South 20 miles past Tucson into Sahuarita (which is even cooler than Tucson). Sahuarita is an up and coming family town. And while most of AZ has been booming price wise, the Tucson area still seems to be coming out of the recession. Home prices are still cheap. I was looking at a newer 1100 sqft. 1 story house is Sahuarita for $160K.

Here's a link to one of the main neighborhoods. I heard they offer a ton of clubs and things to do there.

https://ranchosahuarita.com/

Down town Tucson may offer you the Arts/Entertainment you want. Or take the 2 hour drive up to Phoenix. Also a lot of the Indian Casino's around Tucson have concert venues. A lot of performers stop in the Tucson area.

My Daughter went there as an X-ray tech from CA. Pay was the same. Rent went from a room in So. Cal for $1100 to $750 a mo. for a 2 bedroom apt. in Sabino Canyon (chk out that area also). Sabino Canyon is where the multi-million dollar homes are.

There's also several churches to check out in the area.

Sking and Pines on Mt Lemon. Bird watching, biking, and hiking in Madera Canyon. Wine country in Sonoita an hour away. Plenty to do if you want.

Hello City-Data friends!

Been away for quite a while.. BUT!! I am now visiting Tucson the week of July 4th! I have been reading more on Tucson, and taking advice to see it for myself with a friend....

A few new questions for the Tucson area :
1. Jobs available for someone who has 10+ yrs military training?
2. How competitive is it in dental assisting? QUALITY dental care avail? No corporate dental offices for work please.
3. Could I successfully find a job without knowing how to really speak Spanish, other than what I can remember from high school?
4. Auto thefts... common? Would a 2010 small SUV be a target?
5. Buying property after 2 yrs... advisable? Someone said not to. Budget very low... $65k
6. Accessibility for good medical care? Urgent Care avail nearby?
7. What about this proposed Red Flag gun law?
8. Sushi restaurants?.. NEED sushi!
9. Good doggy daycare places?
10. National parks near by that are safe for dogs? Precautions I'm aware of: keep dog on leash, watch for coyotes, javelinas.. and rattlesnakes.
11. Areas of Tucson to avoid other than the South side?
12. Any recommended places to visit in Tucson?
13. Good/safe places to live in Tucson are..? What's this I hear about Oro Valley ... or tell me a little more about Sierra Vista? (1.5 hrs away, I know..)

Thanks in advance for comments/advice!

dump1567,

Thanks so much. I will definitely check out Sabino Canyon.. sounds nice for a price like that! Will need to see what the commute would be like. Thanks for mentioning the churches... will see what's there. Madera Canyon sounds wonderful for hiking. .... No one has mentioned Sahuarita yet either.

You named a lot of places and gave very helpful pointers! Sorry for the really late reply, but THANK YOU!!

Popwar..

Sorry for the ultra late reply!

I liked the fact that Prescott had more green than Phoenix. The drive from Phoenix to Prescott was undeniably heaven for me. Trees cover much of the ground here in NC... so seeing 'naked' mountains was outstanding! .... Terrain wise.. Phoenix is not what I like. Brown, flat, dusty. The city is just a boring grid..... I need a little bit of hills/mountains.. and a little bit of green... curves in the roads.. etc. DID NOT miss the NC bugs whatsoever - especially the mosquitoes.

Too bad you're not coming now. Spring is really bringing out the beauty of the area. Everything is really green and flowers are even popping out of the cactus.

The Tucson area really seems to offer a lot to do. The Pima Co. fair is going on right now and the Newsboys played there last night. And it was all part of your $15 admission price.

With the population growth in the area, you shouldn't have any problem getting a job in the dental field.
