Arizona's economic struggles continue with the unemployment rate *increasing* in 2010.

Table 3. Civilian labor force and unemployment by state and selected area, seasonally adjusted

For comparison purposes here's what people were saying (and predicting) about the issue a year ago ... https://www.city-data.com/forum/phoen...ate-drops.html

The AZ unemployment rate went up .2% from December '09 to December '10, but it fell .1% from October '10-December '10, and when January's number come out, I'm expecting a slightly further decline. A somewhat interesting side note, while the AZ unemployment rate remaind at 9.4% from November '10-December '10, the state did have an increase of 3,400 net jobs in December.
These things bounce up and down, but AZ's unemployment rate has been fairly even overall. Phoenix's has been falling and is at 8.5% (tied for 17th "best" in the nation).

You can say different things about the data depending on what you want to prove. I read the data to say that over the last year unemployment has risen modestly and then dropped slightly.

Or that unemployment has been roughly constant over the last year.

And a curious thing is that the second link cites a November number inconsistent with the first link. Maybe there has been a correction, as frequently happens?

If I had that data set for an experiment, I'd say, man, I need more data before I can say which way this thing is going.

If a player is batting .300 for the season what he does the last few times at bat (akin to a 1 or two month look) are of little significance, it's the long term trend (year over year) which is more important.

Year-over-year it's almost exactly the same. Yes, it rose, but not by much. And it is currently in a slightly downward trend. We'll see how that plays out.
The thread title is a bit misleading....

When the cuts to AHCCCS come there will be approximately 48 thousand more lost jobs in the state as trauma centers & hospitals do cuts backs or close. I am sure this will push the % of UE rates up.

There have already been a number of cuts to AHCCCS, and the federal government has put limits on the amount of cuts that states can do to their low-income medical programs.

Even so, even if jobs are lost (which I doubt), it would be much too small of a number to increase the unemployment rate. For example, December saw a net job growth of 3,400 in Arizona, yet that was not enough to drop the unemployment rate even .1% (it remained at 9.4%).
48,000 medical jobs lost? That's absurd. Is every hospital in the state going to close because of cuts to AHCCCS?

The state is cutting 300 thousand from AHCCCS. This will save the state 542 million but, lose the state 1 billion dollars in federal funding.
This will cause many trauma centers to close, so in answer to your question, YES.
What is even more absurd is your governor had the option to cut tax loopholes for country club memberships, face lifts & spa treatment among others that could save the state of AZ 10 billion dollars.
She is also asking for sole authority to make budget decisions even bypassing the legislature. <scary huh?
Don't believe me? Look it up.

Hey now, there's a great debating tactic. Make an unbelievable and unsubstantiated claim with no references or proof, and then say "Don't believe me? Look it up".

Here, I'll try that. The moon is made out of swiss cheese. Don't believe me, look it up!!

I can't help it if you don't care or look at what the legislature in your state proposes. I have.
