Hello all I have recently purchased property around 7 to 10 miles from Talkeetna. The best access is by the Talkeetna river east of Clear creek. My question is what kind of boat do I need to go from Talkeetna 10 miles up stream? I can not find information as far as depth and what not so I did not know if I needed a flat bottom boat or if my cabin cruiser would be fine just trying to get some info any help would be appreciated.

I have not run that river but have a friend with a cabin in that area. He uses a jet boat but says he is going to buy a freighter canoe to use when the water is really shallow. He is thinking that he can line the canoe up the areas that are impassable by any boat. No cabin cruiser allowed. You will mess it up badly.

What kind of boat did you use when you went up there to inspect the property before you bought it or did you fly in by helicopter?

Snow machined in but access I am told is easier via the river so that is the way I want to try to go I just didn't want to drag something up there that wasn't going to work.

As the others have said you'll need a flat bottom boat and a jet drive. Good luck!
