It's happening again. All I'm doing is sitting at my computer listening to some streamlining out of Lubbock while doing some occasional typing here on City-Data. Then, suddenly, an unwanted force comes over me like some giant monster waiting to attack. Hey, this experience would make a great book.

Mortgage Rates Improve Post FOMC

Mortgage rates managed to improve slightly following the conclusion of the FOMC meeting. The statement which was released at 2:15pm eastern didn’t hold any surprises. The Fed continued to say they expect the current Fed Fund rate to remain at current levels for an “extended period”. They also mentioned that inflation expectations remain subdued and economic growth will remain slow and sluggish but there has been an improvement in the labor market. Rates Steady Awaiting Fed Statement and More Inflation Data

Mortgage backed securities opened the trading day yesterday much lower due to higher than expected inflation data. Once the bad news set in though, the trading action bounced around as market participants await the Fed statement due out today. There were several reports of scattered reprices from lenders with some improving rate sheet rebate while others worsened.
