Builder Confidence Improves in February

Builder confidence in the market for newly built, single-family homes rose two points to 17 in February as favorable home buying conditions and signs of healing in the job market helped boost the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index.
Factors that have helped boost confidence include:
- Continued low interest rates
- Attractive home prices that appear to have stabilized in many markets
- The availability of the home buyer tax credit

Home buyers and sellers are constantly calling me over the past couple of weeks asking the trillion dollar question. Will the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax credit and 6,500 as long as they have owned there home for at least 5 years be extended past April 30, 2010?

As of today, there are NO plans to extend these programs. Here in the Triangle area where I sell, my listings have picked up tremendously in the last two weeks. My buyers are also trying to hurry and take advantage of...

Mortgage Rates End Week Higher, the Week Ahead

Mortgage rates moved higher last week as market participants prepare for the withdrawal of the Fed from the mortgage backed security market and more data pointed toward an economic recovery. As the week began, mortgage rates were at the lows of 2010 but by the end of the week mortgage rates had risen .25%.

The week ahead is full of Fed speak, plenty of economic data and another round of Treasury auctions.

Today brings us no economic data but we do have Federal Reserve...
