Mortgage rates took a beating yesterday as market participants dumped their fixed income investments driving prices lower which increases yields. The benchmark 10 year treasury note rose from a yield of 3.66 to 3.85 while MBS gave up near 100 basis points. The losses started early, continued throughout the day and closed at the lows of the day. All lenders repriced multiple times, increasing the par rate from 4.75% to 5.00% proving that rates rise much faster than they fall.
