Mortgage Rates Pressured Higher By Stocks

We had a very rough day in the rates market yesterday. Positive news from Europe and Asia led to an unwinding of the “flight to safety” trade positions which has helped push mortgage rates to near record low levels over the last couple weeks. Market participants sold their safe assets in favor of riskier stocks which lead to a near 300 point gain in the Dow. As stocks rallied, benchmark treasuries moved higher in yield forcing mortgage backed security prices lower. As a result, lenders did reprice...

The Bad Part About Being a 6th Year

So, this is something that really irks me about my department/school: They only guarantee funding for 5 years. It doesn't matter that the national average is 5.5, closer to 6 years, they cut you off. So, what does this mean for me? I am teaching, so that's good. It means I'll still get my stipend, a little under $20,000, however, I have to pay tuition and fees. This, I just found out, will be roughly $3,000 a semester. I reckon that does not seem like that much, but let's realize some things....
