Remember When

I lived in a neighborhood at a time when all stores where closed on Sunday, except for the drugstore which was open for just a few hours to fill prescriptions and sell Sunday newspapers.

Families were out and about, but they were walking to church. After that there was Sunday dinner with the whole family at the table as was also usual every day of the week, but with the addition of any visiting friends or relatives.

Heel

For some reason, my mind doesnt work quite right...
I was walking in my home, bare foot as usual (we all do that), and, I happened to step on something that cut my left heel, slicing it my Wife told me.

When it happened, I felt that I stepped on something, but, for some reason, I didnt look down to see what happened, or even 'where' it happened, because I thought that I just stepped on something to 'crack' the skin of my calloused heel... Wasnt the case.

Back in the 40s, there was a Woolworth's and Kresge's down the block from where we lived and where we often went to shop.

Back in those days, the two stores were divided into sections, each with its own counters, and each with its own individual cash register. Each item you needed would be purchased separately in each part of the store.
