Relocating to Georgia with one children

Hello, I will be moving from the Mid-West in May 2013. I'm looking to move to Georgia but, not in the heart of Atlanta because of the things that I heard. My question will be is Atlanta suitable for a single parent with a daughter that will be starting H.S.?

Are there any jobs outside of Atlanta?
How is the neighborhoods?
I actually want to live in a community that has a little urban feel because of the community where I'm coming from didn't have anything to do with Urban...

My buddy and I moved to MO almost a year ago now... 8 months ago, I suppose. I've gotten a job at the local nursing home and my friend has settled into his role as cook, bottlewasher, grounds keeper, houndsmaster, keeper of the steed, and master arborist. Going to Open House at Governor's House wasn't too fun

i was surprised, thought my friends & I, wud have good time going to the Governor's Malloy's mansion, but it was rather boring & stressful.
people visitin kinda friendly, but staff & security guards at the mansion gave us such dirty looks.
thought they'd offer coffee, or cider or donuts or cookies but all they gave folks was a postcard with mincemeat recipe!
man..governor was friendlier to foreigners at his mansion, than the state residents too.
