Posted 01-26-2014 at 02:06 PM by Fortoggie

Clive Cussler's 2013 book,The Mayan Secrets; is a book of adventure and mystery and makes for a good read. But let me jump right to the chase and say that it involves a Guatemalan tribe that knows about the hidden treasure and in fact has protected the gold and other treasures with their lives down through several generations.
While they have lived poor and without any modern amenities, millions of dollars of wealth remained hidden a few hundred yards from their village. My way of ending...

Every generation post WWII has played a part in the downward...

Chilblains and traffic court

Posted 01-23-2014 at 08:45 PM by grumptacular

This winter has been pretty brutal. I don't run heat in my house, but typically keep a fire in the fireplace. I've ended up using a lot more wood this year than I think I have in the past three winters combined. This morning I got up a little earlier than most in order to split some more logs. It was cold!!! It was about 20 degrees. I enjoy the way the cold air tastes, so crisp, and burns a bit when I'm working hard.

I just sharpened my axe last week so it went pretty quick....

For the length of the excursion, I need decent enough skies, sunshine (after the sun comes up), and dry road conditions. After all, it's just a pre-dawn-to-late-afternoon drive to Central Texas.

And the...
