Where to live in Dallas?

Posted 03-21-2014 at 08:11 AM by youngdentalhygienist

I'm a single African American mom to a 5 yr old. I'm looking to move to an area in Dallas that is diverse. I lived in Irving for a yr before moving back to my hometown. I didn't like Irving it was not diverse enough in my opinion. I have posted a blog before and am hoping for a better response. I'm a registered dental hygienist so finding a job will not be that difficult. I just need to know what area to look in. I'm looking for a good elementary school and a safe area. I want to be around 25-30...

Cat

Posted 03-20-2014 at 02:41 PM by nooshb

I'm getting a cat for us and my son is ecstatic. He keeps texting me if I've got the cat yet. We're adopting from our local shelter and they have so many rules and regulations.. but I'm in love with this 4 year old American short hair tabby. I've had cats all my growing years and I know how pets can make kids happy..
Cats make a house feel like home. They're loving but at the same time independent. I admire them for this. No one can tell them what to do. They have a mind of their own. Admirable!...

LASIK and Willing Dupes

Posted 03-20-2014 at 11:12 AM by Blondebaerde

LASIK is a complicated topic, despite all the advances in recent years. My feeling, after exploring it carefully (research, c. 1999-2010), was that the risks were not worth it "for me."

Someone can "discuss" dry eyes with a practitioner, or "ask about risks," and they'll seem to have all the answers. Understand that's part of the pitch, though. No different, frankly, then asking a Mercedes Benz sales associate why exactly I should spend $175K on that...

ON: Technology Adoption by the Retired Generation

(Inspired by a C-D thread, March 2014)

My late father (d. 2011) was not terribly fond of technology. But he did what he had to, and used what he was comfortable with until his departure at age 81.

c. 2001 I gave him a tolerable desktop computer. He dealt with it. Later he upgraded, on his own. Lather, rinse, repeat. He got himself on the Internet for email, and later for news surfing. When sorting his accounts, after he was gone, I found most of his accounts and...

Be careful before making a big move

Posted 03-19-2014 at 12:28 PM by Nimashan

We have made a terrible mistake on making this move east, we have an opportunity to go back but this move cost us so much money that we will have to wait for some time and not sure I can take it.

Before anyone makes a move to a new city first go and stay a length of time, and also don't let family, friends or anyone else guilt you into it! I have been very involved in this new community, been out there making acquaintances and trying to establish routine. People have been friendly,...
