Not A Promising Job

Posted 07-21-2014 at 12:10 AM by aliasfinn

I once took a job with this guy who sold used cars, I started out working on them but spent a lot of my time going with the tow truck driver to pick up the junkers. One night we had to go to East St.Louis to fetch an LTD that the guy stopped payment on. It wasn't at his house but we found that he hid it behind a building. As we were hooking it up, a cop drove by slow and stared at us, the guy I was with then told me to do the driving. I asked him why and he said he didn't have a valid license and...

The Camp Out

Posted 07-20-2014 at 11:54 PM by aliasfinn

When I was 18 some friends talked me into going on a camp out with them to some wilderness about 80 miles away. I was never big on camping but I didn't have anything else to do that weekend so I went. They brought two tents along, one big one for all of us and a tiny pup tent to keep a porty pot in. We had plenty of beer but ran out of ice and since it was around 100 degrees all weekend the beer got quite warm. The cooler that they brought wasn't worth a damn, the sliced ham started tasting funny...

Social Media: Count me OUT (Redux)

Reading a thread about Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter this evening. The last was not explicitly mentioned, but should have been. They're all similar flavors of the same poison.

Mid-July 2012, I jettisoned Facebook with notice to all my contacts. I'd had "enough" of a number of people in real life, their miserable behavior finally boiling over my point of no return. Yes, I know: what defines us is not necessarily others' behavior, but how we react. And I...

Saturday Mornings

Posted 07-20-2014 at 09:04 PM by aliasfinn

We couldn't wait for Saturday mornings when we were kids. We would watch Dastardly & Muttley, Fat Albert and then wait for our friends to show up and begin a day of adventure. We would often walk to this outdoor shopping mall 8 miles away which was built in a circular formation and was one of the largest in the country. It had just about any kind of store you could think of located there. We seldom had any money with us but it didn't stop us from having fun. We would walk down the long road...

Case's Sunday Funny: How Shall We End The Program?

Posted 07-20-2014 at 07:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, I haven't done this in a while, so it's way past time for another Sunday Funny on Case's Column. This day's funny comes through the auspices of some TV gurus on YouTube who like to collect old television themes from different production companies.

You know how many TV shows play a production company's theme shortly after the conclusion of same? That's pretty much a staple of the broadcast world, and something that, for many, brings back a lot of memories. ...
